Forsberg for Pickard and some late round pick in 2026 or 27.

Oilers have LTIR space to absorb a higher cap hit and an arguably better goalie when factoring xSv%. Sens get instant cap relief and a still solid backup that is signed for one more season in case Leevi isn't ready to backup Ullmark.

I'd prefer this over nothing. What the benefit for Ottawa? Clearing cash? They may need a little more incentive than a late pick to downgrade their backup.

I would do it if Pickard cleared waivers first, then we could send him down and call up Merilainen

It creates cap room for OTT to add at the deadline. But it won't happen, as EDM loses cap space, they want to add.

Merilainen is healthy and playing well in Belleville, and was pretty damn good in his time with the big club. Don't think it's much of a downgrade, it's more if they want him to play games for BEL down the stretch, but IMO being Ullmarks backup/mentee will do him more good at this point.

Really just clears $2M of space for OTT for them to get Donato or someone similar.
