Proposal: Ottawa and Buffalo

I would take Peterka in any race one on one with Ehlers.... and saying one player has struggled in the playoffs so this completely different player is going to struggle in the playoffs has got to be one of the dumbest and laziest arguments that can possibly be made.
Peterka can definitely do well in the playoffs, I'm just saying based on playstyles, he'll probably be a lot less effective than during the regular season. And IDK if I'd take him speed wise over Ehlers.

Lots of wingers thruout history with similar playstyles as Peterka and Ehlers have played in the playoffs.... some sucessful some not sucessful.

I don't think Ehlers playoff failures can be pinned on anyone else except himself.

Norris and Batherson have no chemistry. They were an even-strength offensive black hole. This is why the Sens traded Norris for Cozens. Norris is a mature player, better than Cozens, but Cozens has upside, we'll see if he reaches it, and has even-strength chemistry with Batherson. Buffalo isn't a good fit for Batherson, and Paterka has losts of upside.

I don't think this is very appealing to Ottawa.

At the very least, Batherson and Peterka are equal in terms of talent.

Pinto's value is much much higher than Quinn's. Pinto is a shutdown center with the ability to put up points. Even if the point totals are in the same range, there is a considerable gap here.

The first round pick difference is nice, but the draft is a huge crapshoot. It's more likely than not that whoever is drafted with Buffalo's 1st is not going to be as good as any of the players listed in this trade.
There's a lot of variables in that deal. Peterka is 23 so there might be some more upside in his game and he's an RFA with several years of team control. He also scored at a slightly better clip than Batherson last season. Batherson is on a good contract but it only lasts 2 more seasons before he hits free agency, I'd say he's certainly a more polished all around player than Peterka. Comparing the two I think Peterka has a little more value.
The draft has certainly got an element of uncertainty to it, but in general the higher you move up the 1st round the more likely you are to not only get an NHL player, but to get a higher end NHL player. Looking at this draft the jump from 9 to 21 is really significant. There'll be a much better pool to draw from in the top 10.
Clearly Pinto is a significantly better player than Jack Quinn. He may never be more than a middle 6 center, but he's a guy who in my viewings does a lot of the little things you need to help you win hockey games. Quinn is just upside at this point. He has ability, but injuries, inconsistency and lackadaisical play have really made it hard to project what he becomes.
I think the offer is relatively close at least as far as value is concerned but I don't see Ottawa moving 2 really solid contributors from a playoff team for an offensive upgrade on the 1st line, an improved draft pick that won't make an impact for several years and a scratch off ticket in Quinn.

To Ottawa: John-Jason Peterka (RFA)
To Buffalo: Drake Batherson ($4.975m x 2 years) +

Norris and Batherson are reunited. Stutzle and Peterka are reunited. Everyone's happy. What would need to be added to make it a done deal?
Also...i recall brady crying more. He might want to br with his buddy much more than batherson

Ehlers is faster according to NHL EDGE

So Buffalo makes their team worse and a divisional rival better just for funsies? Nah. No chance in hell.
Peterka is better than Batherson?... probably not no. Batherson is a proven line driver. Peterka has never done that... yet. While peterka definitely has more value and ottawa adds let's not distort reality.
