To Ottawa: John-Jason Peterka (RFA)
To Buffalo: Drake Batherson ($4.975m x 2 years) +

Norris and Batherson are reunited. Stutzle and Peterka are reunited. Everyone's happy. What would need to be added to make it a done deal?

Drake Batherson
Shane Pinto
25 1st

JJ Peterka
Jack Quinn
25 1st

I dunno if I even like that trade... just bored and hate everything about my team.
I don't think this is very appealing to Ottawa.

At the very least, Batherson and Peterka are equal in terms of talent.

Pinto's value is much much higher than Quinn's. Pinto is a shutdown center with the ability to put up points. Even if the point totals are in the same range, there is a considerable gap here.

The first round pick difference is nice, but the draft is a huge crapshoot. It's more likely than not that whoever is drafted with Buffalo's 1st is not going to be as good as any of the players listed in this trade.

As much as I'd love Peterka, it has to be practical. Likewise, I don't think Peterka's style is very fit for the playoffs. He's essentially a slower Ehlers, and we all know how much Ehlers has historically struggled in the playoffs.

Ottawa has to forfeit a 1st. Unsure if this yrs one they decide to forfeit vs a pick in 26.
Already been decided, they will forfeit next years unless Bettman mans up and respects the precedent he set with the Devils' Kovalchuk punishment and the "new ownership" reasoning for lowering it

Send are clearly on the upswing. Sabres are needing change to their core. This trade seems fair, but why would Ottawa change what they’re building?

Exactly. Only makes sense if it's for someone outside Ottawa's top 6, like for futures, which Sabres fans would likely lose their minds over. If JJP really does want out, and has his wish granted, little chance that Sabres fans will be happy regardless of the return

I would take Peterka in any race one on one with Ehlers.... and saying one player has struggled in the playoffs so this completely different player is going to struggle in the playoffs has got to be one of the dumbest and laziest arguments that can possibly be made.
