Ottawa 67s 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

This is only speculation on my part so please NO ONE take this as gospel but there is a thread on the main page regarding Sexual Assault allegations involving eight players of the Mississauga Steelheads in 2014. The OPP is currently investigating and I assume the OHL/CHL will also investigate.

James Boyd was the coach of the Steelheads at that time. Now, this is where it gets speculative BUT if the investigation turns up information leading to the coaching staff/management of the Steelheads having awareness, this could turn into a Chicago Blackhawks situation where lengthy bans and suspensions are handed out to the coaches and management involved in ignoring or covering it up. Again, I am not saying Boyd knew anything. I am only pointing out that he was a coach and will likely be a central stakeholder in the investigation since he was the head coach and MAY HAVE had knowledge of the incident.

If it turns out that Boyd did have knowledge of it and did not report it, things could get a little messy here.
Do GM and coaches have morality clauses in their contracts? depending how the investigation is going this would be the perfect out for OSEG (again if it is true)
You get out of paying either the last year or the extension contract.

Interesting side note guess who the goaltending coach was? Hint his first name is Kory

You really need to stop with these posts...you did the same thing in the Fronts post. Don't make SA investigations into a great chance to change gm's. It's pretty disrespectful to the victim and any players that are not actually involved

I agree. It is not about using it as a tool. The issue is whether either knew about the incident, whether there was any coverup of it, and whether there should be penalties for any involvement retroactively. It is not about trying to use it as a tool.

That said, I am not too sure this is what Beast was getting at. I think it is more a coincidence than anything else. I don’t’ think he was trying to use this as a tool. No hockey club with any level of respect would try to do that. They would let the investigations lead where they lead and if they are impacted as a result, then they would abide by any decisions the league makes in that regard.

I do need to stress that this conversation is very speculative with respect to a coach having knowledge. Based on what I have read about this incident, it doesn’t’ look like there was any report at the time that would have needed to be addressed by the team. Considering that, it is unlikely the investigation would lead to the doorstep of the coaching staff at the time but it is something to at least keep on the radar since it would potentially impact both the 67’s and the Frontenacs.
