With such a limited number of players, can they afford to put Mack into the lineup, or is this going to be Nelson's big test?

It's going to be a long weekend if they are only 5 d and 1 goalie. Then again the good side is that Milly and Boyd are going to see what the team will be like if they trade Pinelli.

47 shots tell me that we have the offence; we just need to figure out how to finish, which is really exciting to see.

Good effort again tonight. Say what you want but this team works. So do the Petes. Taylor is looking really good. Rye was great in net. Fun game to watch considering it was a basement dweller game!

Mews with three points. The kid is really pushing the offence.

Considering they had 47 shots they had very, very few high danger chances - this is a hardworking team that has no finish. We squeaked by the worst team in the league…but a win is a win, and as pointed out by OMG it was at least entertaining which continues to be the silver lining in a tough season standings-wise.

I thought Amidovski might get a little more ice than he ended up with tonight. I thought he looked ok. Whitehead looked good in really limited opportunities. Foster seemed to take most of the night off, and Korbler continued to be a bit of a black hole on the first line. Mayich, Esh, and Mews logged a ton of ice which will be hard to maintain across 3 in 3 this weekend if Marrelli can’t return tomorrow.

Definitely tough to play MacK and sit an OA right now. That is why I am surprised they were unable to rope in a replacement. But, with OS and Brampton both having two goalies out of their lineup at the Team Canada tryouts, maybe it was tougher to access one.

Part of me wonders if Boyd is holding out hope that he can get a buyer for Stonehouse. With the Christmas break coming up, he may have decided to hold on and see what happens. Does anyone know if MacK is on the road trip or is he back in Ottawa

I think we really need to bring up Bonomo or another D to fill the hole unless we are going to move Horner back for the weekend

Marrelli is only out sick. It could just be the one game.

I am not sure what the issue with the goaltending is. There doesn’t seem to be a supply of available guys out there this year like in past seasons. It could be he is waiting for something to open up for MacK, or it could be Stonehouse but either way, it seems he is waiting for something to open up. I think he is waiting on acquiring the capable backup. Then he can resolve the issue.

Stonehouse hasn’t been as impactful as he should be. He really needs to get on a team that can get him the puck in front of the net. He is drawing his fair share of penalties which is good and he is a distraction which is good. But, since he broke his nose in practise and has been wearing the face mask, his impact hasn’t been as noticeable.

I assume that we can not waive Stonehouse because of the oilers. What is his value, and is it better to keep him Gerrior or MacK?

Boyd has put himself in a bit of a box, which is both good and bad. It's good that these guys all have value for us, but it's bad because he has to release one of them. Also we will be able after the deadline to set lines and D pairs,

I don't think Dever or Foster will go anywhere, and honestly, I hope Dever stays. He is turning out to be this team's version of Tolnai—reliable and able to play both ends. A first line with him at the center is not that bad a thing.

At this point it makes no sense to keep MacK. If we are rebuilding and trading Pinelli, with Nelson being capable as a starter, we may as well keep the forwards.

The OA with the most value is Mayich. I don’t’ think we can trade him. He is the one stabilizing force on the back end.

I agree about Dever and Foster. I really don’t want to bottom out. Keeping Dever and Foster as two stable OA’s next year will help ensure we stay at least competitive.

Waiving stonehouse has nothing to do with the oilers, Ottawa can do what ever they would like with him,

Boyd is currently looking for a new home for Mack

From what I have been told Boyd has been getting a heavy amount of calls on , Pinelli, Mews, Foster, Dever

I think Pinelli will be gone, I believe Mews will be held onto until next season, Dever & Foster is a tough one, depends on Boyd’s OA plans for next season, a lot of interest in Dever because teams think they can get him cheap and he’s a good 3rd line reliable centre that looks after both ends of the rink. I hope Boyd keeps him & foster for next season but time will tell, foster has Gardnier type of return you would think if not more.

Mac makes an appearance, which answers the question as to whether we were ever going to see him again. As a result though Stonehouse sits and we are playing short with 11 forwards and 5 D, in the middle of a 3-in-3. Not ideal.

Dever with a great first period. Broke away from the Barrie checker twice. Really good drive to the net short handed. He is looking very quick tonight. I agree about Dever. I wouldn’t trade him for less than a 2nd and 5th. He is too important for this team next year.

The Gardiner trade is a really good comparable for Foster. Gardiner has less of a chance returning as an OA than Foster. Foster likely returns as an OA. Gardiner went for 2-2-3-4. The picks mostly a little deeper into the future though. One on one, I take Gardiner but the fact Foster is likely back as an OA and Gardiner as a 3rd round pick (DAL) likely will not be back, Foster plays that extra season. I think that makes a big difference.

It is really tough to see a Mews trade now. His value is going through the roof. He’s 3rd in scoring for D-Men. He will likely catch Marrelli (OSH) but we will see if he stays ahead of Parekh. Either way, he is destined to finish top 5. He’s also played a lot better defensively the last 4 weeks or so. It looks like the game has slowed down for him and he is seeing the ice better. I don’t think I have seen him play as consistently well for this long a period at both ends of the ice. His value is likely around a mid-1st 2008 plus a couple 2nds and a 3rd. That’s going to be tough for many teams to pony up. Brantford and Erie are the only two in that range and I am not sure Erie would prioritize the defence.

I am not sure where Pinelli is right now for market value. He’s had such a great season. I’m sort of excited to see what he does with Team Canada. This may be his coming out party. He hasn’t gotten a lot of respect, that is for sure. If he comes out and plays an impact role, I think his value may get a little crazy. It really is looking like he has played his last game with Ottawa. I doubt he plays the Wednesday game (Jan 8th) after the Final of the WJHC (Sunday the 5th). He will likely take that week off. The deadline is the 10th. I can say that he has gained a lot of respect this season with his better all around play. Definitely more of an impact with and without the puck.

Four assists for Mews after two periods tonight.

Barrie looks like they are sleeping through this game. They’ve got nothing in the tank. Lazy hockey.
