Don’t speak too quick about Foster. So much stuff in play right now across the league. Anything can happen right now.
So this could be a fire sale of sorts

If Foster goes, and I have no issue with that, then Boyd has to keep Dever. You need one of those 2 back next year for 1st line center. You would be crazy to think Barlas could fill that slot.

Whitehead and Amidovski are ot ready for 1st lilne minutes and pressure.

Ekberg, from everything we have seen, is a winger not a center.

Did I miss something in the news reports, or did DC fail to admit that they were outplayed by a better team that understood defence and protecting the goalie more than he and Team Canada?

All I read here is tht could of won that they should have won, and that they outshot Latvia while not mentioning that Latvia kept the Canucks from getting in the hard shots and crashing the net.

To me, this was a Canadian team that went into a game thinking it was like going to Niagara a couple of years ago. The only question was how many points each person would get.

But I repeat this is what I am getting from the Canadian media on line

I don’t know if it will be a fire sale. I am not saying that at all. What I am saying is from my perspective, with all the teams seemingly buying, and if Pinelli ends up garnering Parker Vaughn, that means prices are high. Maybe Foster by himself doesn’t’ garner a big return but if you look at the McCue/Smith deal last year with OS and Peterborough, who’s to say that we couldn’t get a player like Brady Smith from Oshawa for a package of Foster and Mayich? I am NOT saying I have heard anything in that regard but Foster is a PPG forward that can score goals and Mayich would be one of the top OA D-Men out there. Mayich has size, plays well defensively, can play a nasty game when necessary, and currently sits tied for 20th in scoring amongst D-Men. So, he has proven capable of contributing offensively.

I am not a proponent of moving Mayich but IF IF IF Mayich + Foster gets us a player like Brady Smith from Oshawa, I think we need to look at it seriously.

I don’t know if there is a deal like that out there to be had but if there is, I think we need to consider all available options more seriously than I first considered. I didn’t think the market woudl be as hot as it was last deadline and I thought Peterborough was situationally in a good spot to take advantage. Ottawa has enough quality talent to potentially do a little bit of what the Petes did without completely gutting the entire roster to do it.

I think that kind of trade would really give me pause with respect to moving more than Pinelli.

Do you see Mews as a pawn in this game. I am thinking that there are a few teams that could use him especially Brantford and Brampton.

I still think that if we trade Foster or Dever, unless the offer is TGTBT, we have to keep one of them.

What kind of return would Myich get us from Brampton, who could use another leader? They are one of the top-scoring teams, but they are also one of the worst defence.

There is no value in any of our overages the return would be minimal

I agree with Granderson. I think the OA as part of a package may make a difference but the OAs individually aren’t likely worth much/

Mayich may get a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th from a team like Oshawa but with Foster, maybe they can get a key player.

I'd have to think that if Oshawa has a package for Smith + picks on the table for either Gibson or Foster/Mayich they'd take the Gibson deal and use up their remaining picks on a forward OA.

I've wondered about Mayich for picks for the Fronts but it'd depend on cost and if they ultimately decide to upgrade on Heyes.

Hey, if we can get a couple of draft picks this coming draft and next that to me, is worth it.

It is also why I ask about Mews. I am sure he has a high value this year.

Mews will have high value next year too.

I think we need to wait to see what the trade market inflation looks like. It is very possible that with trade market inflation, trading a two year player this year may be the same as trading the player next year. Some of the values out there seem wonky but who knows.

Also, with the NCAA rule change, we really don’t know what the roster will look like next year. We could end up adding a few good players. On top of that, we may add a couple players at this deadline. The team may be young next year but if the right players are added and they make a decent enough impact, maybe next year isn’t as bad as we think it could be. That may impact whether Mews is available. I am NOT saying we will be good next year but with some fo the variables out there, maybe? We’d need to wait and see next year.

There is also the flip side of all that. Woudl Mews request a trade if we are moving Pinelli and Foster etc? I have not heard any rumblings about Mews getting moved since the beginning of the seasons o it doesn’t look like that is the case but things change.

I am not sure there is a great market for Mews. It looks more like the teams that are looking for Defence are looking for bigger bodies and less offence. Goal prevention seems to be the premium. And, there are only so many assets out there available to acquire. There looks to be four ‘08s “potentially” available (Smith, Vaughn, O’Donnell, and Challenger). Impact ‘08s are tougher to get because if they are impact, they are making an impact for their current team which makes them more difficult to move because you need to replace their current production. Guys like Hopkins will be very tough to trade. So, do you move players for middling ‘07s? Maybe you could get Griffin from Oshawa? London moved Jenken but he isn’t significantly moving the needle. Oshawa moved Delisle and Bedkowski. Both good players but neither are likely to be bonafide first line or pairing.

Mews would need to return the ‘08 plus picks. I am not sure that trade is out there. If Vaughn goes in the Pinelli deal (or the NB deal), Smith likely goes in the Gibson deal, that leaves O’Donnell and Challenger. Luchanko likely ends up moved for one of those two. That leaves one guy left for Mews? What about Musty or Romani? What if one or two of those ‘08s aren’t available?

I think the better move is to keep Mews provided he is ok staying. If he wants to go, then explore the options. See what you can do.

Stonehouse getting traded? Or is he injured again
Not injured to my knowledge, probably just the rotation of the 4 OA's. But could there also be a trade in the mix...maybe as one of our 4 overagers will be gone within 10 days one way or another.
