Great crowd today got treated to a really entertaining well played hockey game.
Ottawa's speed, fast puck movement, strong forecheck were really on display this weekend.

Kressler has been good since we got him, but has been on another level these past two games.
Stonehouse also put together two very strong games, better than he has been the last month.

I’ve been very happy overall with Michelone. He is sporting a 2.79 and a .903% over 8 games since joining Ottawa. He’s been a very good addition.

Brantford with the loss this afternoon at home against Flint. Big win for Flint trying to make the playoffs. Pushes them back ahead of Sarnia for 8th.

Today’s win combined with Brantford’s loss makes it two points back with a game in hand. Ottawa keeps creeping closer to the top of the division.

Next game this Wednesday against Kingston. Kingston has had our number this season but we haven’t squared off since before the deadline moves. We need to make a statement that game and hammer them down to show there is no room for them in the top half of the division.

Tell you what - if Dave Cameron got fined for asking questions at the end of the Saginaw game then Kitchener should get tagged for their coaches' antics at the end of this one. They were going out of their minds after the illegal faceoff call, and kept it up as they were leaving the ice.

Oh the irony, after the completely ridiculous interference call on Mews in the 3rd that Kitchener benefited from. Should have been 2 minutes for embellishment on the Kitchener player if anything.

Did you notice the veteran move by Kressler going towards the Rangers end for the faceoff,, while the refs were still discussing, before the call was even made, haha!

Funny how the bad/borderline calls have a habit of evening themselves out. Fans/coaches/players always remember the bad calls they had to eat, but never recall the questionable ones that went their way. We're all guilty of it...

Was actually gonna comment on Michelone. He's been a sneaky good addition. Amazing what playing for a better team does. He's not Mac but very good at getting in front of pucks. Also nice to have Foster back today. Closest we've been to full strenght in a while. Only missing Mac but no rush, Michelone is ok. We need him 100% for the playoff, this kid can steal a series.

I agree, but I’m not convinced the hand pass on the faceoff was technically a bad call. I was sitting a few rows back from the faceoff circle and it looked like the Kitchener player at the very least covered the puck with his hand very briefly. There was some hand movement but couldn’t tell if if it was the centre that passed it back with his hand or the other guy coming in with the stick. Kressler seemed to know immediately and started skating towards the Kitchener zone.

Now, that sort of infraction shouldn’t result in a penalty imo and I was surprised when it did. The faceoff should come all the way down the ice but imo that kind of play shouldn’t be penalized. I guess “thems the rules”, a stupid rule probably but I could see any coach blow a gasket on that call and swallow the $500 fine.

Regardless, the better team on the ice got the win today. Agree with all the comments on Michelone. I also thought Mayich and Marrelli were very good, and should be our top pairing moving forward. And Smyth has settled down fairly well of late since being paired up with Sirman. A quality win.

An underrated place to park is the City owned Glebe parkade at Third and Bank. You need to go to the third and fourth floors for longer term (i.e. over two hours) parking, but the rates are cheaper, parking is generally available, and it's a pretty short walk to the rink...

Thank you for this. This was a great tip

mmmmh... no Gerrior today... Don't forget about him!

Kitcheneer seems to be falling.

Kingston seems to be in a battle with Barrie for last play off spot.

Oshawa thought all was great and were playing well, but then lost Lockwood and had a difficult bunch of games.

The test is going to be how we lay the remainder and how the Bulls do against the Western teams.
Ottawa has to play like they need to win the rest of the games this year to make it.

There can be no let down.

Perhaps Mr. Cameron used some unfortunate turn of phrase. The Kitchener coaches really went off. I have noticed that Cameron is much more animated and more vocal than earlier in the year.

We weren't at the game, as we are knee deep in rug rats and sick ones at that.

That final call on the face-off, did Sop use his hand to push the puck back to a teammate? We didn't really see the infraction. As others have noted, these things tend to even out, but complaining about them is very cathartic.

Mackenzie being injured isn’t really a strong argument for how much better they could be when Michy has provided as good or better numbers that you would get from Macker anyway?

Mallets inability to adapt to Dave Cameron’s systems I suppose is a concern.
The team is solid I guess what I was trying to say was I don’t see this team competing with Sudbury or the NB in a 7 game series.

It would be kind of comical if Kingston and Ottawa meet round 1

I guess 67's exhausted the Petes on friday, lost 11-1 to Brantford today, giving up 3 shorties in 4 mins.

I guess we will see on Wednesday where Kingston and Ottawa are now as opposed to the different teams from earlier in the season.

Both teams need a win so it should be an interesting game.

I can already hear Frontsfan complaining that they are playing too many games in a row and it is the schedules fault if they lose :sarcasm:

The Fronts have gotten the better of Ottawa to date. I discount the three games over the holiday break because Ottawa was hobbled with a lot of injury etc. But, that doesn’t explain the two losses (plus one win) earlier in the year. Vaccari has played well in the games played so far. Donoso played all of those games and he was mostly terrible against them.

I expect the game on Wednesday to be a reversal of what we have seen so far this season. It will either be that or Ottawa is the tonic that heals the Fronts. They’ve been mostly garbage the last few weeks (5-8 since the deadline). Three of those wins against Petes and Niagara so layups. They did beat Kitchener last weekend though. That is a nice feather in the cap. So, they aren’t’ a crap team, just having a tough time right now.

I'm starting to like Korbler on that top line with Kressler and Pinelli. He's a great skater, and aggressive on the forecheck and in puck pursuit. Good motor. Now, I think he lacks the offensive creativity to truly complement Kressler and Pinelli from an offensive perspective, but he does provide a necessary element to that line. It allows allows Cameron to lengthen out the forward lineup somewhat instead of stacking the top lines.

Horner has also been having a nice run recently. Some goals (GWGs at that), a good fight the other night, and some big hits on the forecheck. I think he's a bottom-6 player for us when everyone is healthy, but he'll be a nice weapon for us in the playoffs provided he can stay disciplined and play within his limitations.

Kudos to Cameron for sticking with those two players through some earlier struggles.
