I'm trying to understand this from a Chicago POV. DeBrincat is an electric, 40-goal scoring 24 year old who will still be an RFA in a year. Unless you're planning to rebuild for a LONG time he should be part of the plan.

Did something happen behind the scenes to make this make sense? I cannot for the life of me believe that they did this as a hockey trade.

What a dumb move made by Chicago management. The guy is only 24 yo and PPG already. Now Chicago, you need to try to find another Debrincat with the 7th pick?? Odds are against you.

On the Sens side, that's a lot for a guy who could walk in two seasons when the playoffs are nowhere near a certainty, no?

This is like the reveal at the end of an Ocean's 11 movie. You're like, "wha...??"

Crazy good deal for Ottawa.

And if they don't get him?
Ballsy to do it now, back in Mario days, for sure, worst teams gets 1st overall but now, no guarantees you land him/1st overall.
If you get a top 5 pick in next years draft, you're in great shape.
