To quote my post above:

When you were scared his career would be over? Sure.

When he’s our 2nd line center, 2nd on team in goals, top PK unit and top PP unit, 54% on faceoffs, 2nd on team in hits, and starting 56% of his shifts in the Dzone … in the middle of a playoff run … different story here.

Let’s be honest here, we’re a long ways away from the beginning of the season. Not a single Sens fan was advocating to buy out Josh Norris or to dump him at this stage.

In fact many Sens fans would not have traded him at all at the deadline because of how important he was to this team’s success. It just somehow ended up working out because we got a player that took his spot.
He's had 3 shoulder surgeries b4 turning 24, so those fears will never go away and given how shoulders work, I am VERY glad he's gone. NM the fact he is overpaid at the best of times and is a black hole of playmaking ability. Yes, great player and guy, but with definite and pronounced shortcomings and probably best suited as a winger who takes faceoffs. And yes, I wanted him bought out, due to the 1/3rd rule and I'm definitely a Sens fan

Jack Hughes has had multiple shoulder surgeries. Norris, like Hughes, has a very high ceiling when healthy. It’s for sure a risk, but Cozens just doesn’t have the same kind of ceiling. He’s more a good 2/3 C if he plays his best.

The amount of gaslighting going on in all those Cozens trade proposals over the past year is astonishing.

He’s actually a giant turd.

Well played Sabres fans, you actually had me convinced that he was worth trading for based on the hundreds of proposals that you guys turned down.

Nonsense.

I think the trade is garbage for us.

And I think Cozens has struggled for various reasons..some being on the team and others being on Cozens himself.

And I think he can turn it around in the right situation.

I don't think this is accurate in regards to Norris, and I've seen pretty much every game he's played at the NHL level and actually really like him. I said this all year on the Sens board — he's no doubt $2-2.5M overpaid, but would have been happy to keep him around.

Norris has a solid floor. He's responsible defensively, smart, a good skater, good work ethic, and is a really good teammate. He's never going to hurt your team when he's on the ice.

But he doesn't have that high a ceiling. Not in the same stratosphere as Jack Hughes. He'll never be a #1 center, and if you're counting on him to produce consistent offense, especially at 5v5, you're going to be disappointed. He just doesn't have the vision or playmaking ability to make his linemates better. He has 13 primary 5v5 assists in his entire career. Career! That's 237 NHL games. Most of which was played in a run and gun, forget about your own zone, system.

This season is pretty much what I'd expect for the rest of his prime. He's currently pacing for 30G and 50P. I don't think he'll be much more than that, offensively. He can be on anyone's top PP, but at 5v5, you better have other centres who can pick up the offensive slack.

Like I said, still a really good player. But not a super high ceiling. He's like a Phil Danault except flip the goals and assists.

Cozens is terrible why would anyone draft this guy?
His performance at the 2021 WJC says otherwise and shows why he was. One of the most dominant performances of his gen at the WJC, if not the single most and that says volumes about a guy's ceiling

That's all we can hope for.

A slumping guy for an injury-prone guy.

I like Norris a great deal, I just wish he wasn't in the division. ;)

I think he is already in a better situation not being flanked by young 20 somethings when he is only 24 and the elder of his line.

Norris and Pinto have similar skill sets. It looks like Josh’s shoulder issues are fixed up. Good wheels clutch scorer, Buffalo did well. Staios wanted a little variety and I’d expect Cozen’s eventually winds up in the wing with Stutzle, Pinto and Greig down the middle.
Might be hard to imagine but this might be a good trade for both teams.

I think he was on the wing most of that tournament? It's kind of a no-brainer to put him on the wing. Buffalo might've been able to use him well if they had any other centers to replace him...they were barely ever able to even try him at wing. Once, maybe twice they tried it.

Ya, him becoming a winger seems to be the consensus as far as giving him the best odds of success going forward and that could work for Ottawa!

Yeah WJC performances says a lot about someone's ceiling. All the guys with big WJC performances all had super high ceilings. Like Cody Hodgson, Casey Mittlestadt, Trevor Zegras, Jesse Puljujarvi, Samuel Fagemo, Ryan Poehling and Joel Armia!

Sure, or you could ahead and highlight all the outliers that support your argument. It's a best on best tourney and you are actually trying to argue that guys who do great there are all garbage?

No my point is that the WJC is a pretty poor barometer for ceiling. There is very little equivalency between WJC performances and NHL careers.

Rarely see this level of tearing a guy down on the way out.

Not a great look.

I’m sure the thread will be bumped however it plays out in the next months/years.

It's pretty tame compared to when he was here.

Think of how ornery Sens fans have been the last 6 years. In year 7, there's finally some light.

Now imagine no light for 14 years and knowing that there's none in your near future...

So it's not surprising the Sabres fans are jaded about a guy who was supposed to help them have success but didn't.

Personally, I'll judge Cozens on how he does as a Senator fan. A new coach, system and team can do wonders.

I mean, if Ottawa had traded Chabot last summer, 75% of the board would have told the acquiring team fans that he's terrible. But all of a sudden this year? With competent coaching and a good partner? He's been great.
