The FA sigings will definitely be the deciding factor. Payton with his warts, knows how to draft for need.
I see other franchises with the offensive young talent they have. We are not even close. That is even if Nix becomes a decent qb. Its gonna take lots of draft capital to make up for that.

But glad Wilson is gone and this team seems to be truly rebuilding.

Well the good news is, that if Bo sucks, that means we're going to suck, and we'll have two more chances to draft a high end QB.

Maybe they should run more hurry up?

yeah more of a flow with the hurry up OR Seattle defense just playing a bit soft on that drive. Whatever hopefully some positivity going into next weekend.

I agree, seems Nix improvises and reads the D better in hurry up and from the shotgun

Disappointed they didn't get a last shot but not terribly confident they would have done anything with it. Hey if you waited until today to bet it you would have gotten a winning bet at +6.5.

game sucked. qb play sucked. But at least we arent paying Nix $3M for the loss and then watching him goof off on TikTok 3 hrs later.

Next week we might be paying Russ to beat us on our home field.

Man I hope we can beat the Steelers. Or if we lose, it's to Fields and not Russ.

Friend made a good point, Payton knew this was coming. He figured Nix would be overmatched like the other rookies were today and really forever in the NFL so maybe he kept the offense vanilla. He put no deeper concepts on tape and didn't really use much misdirection. He accepted that if they were going to win it would be a combination of dominant D and some luck. He got that first half but it was inevitable. Be interesting what gets added next week. Too bad we might not have Russ to boo. Seems possible Russ may never start another game after Fields did just enough today.

An egomaniac like Payton would never think him or his offense is overmatched. This is the guy who keeps trying to make it seem like he tricked the Falcons, Vikings, and Raiders just so he could get Nix. If anything, he'd probably want to go all out while the other rookie QBs struggled to show how much of an offensive genius he is. Hence them throwing it 42 times today.

The reality is that Nix was horrendous today and the rest of the offense wasn't much better.

Nix seems to laser in on his first option - usually Sutton - and refuses to move on. You'd better have a Cutler-esque arm to zip fast balls in there if that's the case, and Nix clearly does not.

It doesn't even work if you have a Cutler arm. Cutler ended up with a career losing record and more combined picks and fumbles (255) than total touchdowns (227 passing and 9 rushing).

Two years ago opening in Seattle proves you need to keep it simple.

QBs in NFL history to throw for 138 yards or fewer on 42 or more attempts:
Jordan Palmer
39 year old Ben Roethlisberger
Bo Nix today

2/12 with 2 INT on passes that traveled more than 10 air yards

It's very obvious to me that the Broncos lack playmakers. Just watching some other games and no one is really making any plays down field with any consistency.

Most throws are 3-6 yards. The biggest difference is good teams have WRs and TEs etc. that make players miss and turn the 5 yard throw it 10-12+ yard plays. The Broncos broke maybe one tackle today. Got to improve the skill positions if they want any shot.

I don't care much about his first game. Especially when the gameplan got blown up early on. We simply don't have the weapons to rely on a RAC style offense. He was rattled early on.

The one concerning thing is basically everything you've heard looked like bullshit. All the talk about his processing and decision making and that was his biggest weakness. He locked onto his first read every play. Tossed a pick into triple coverage. Stared down WR's. Seeing how he builds off today will be they key and after a few more games we'll have a better idea. Won't last long when your that reckless with the ball.
