Other Sports: Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies etc…Part VII

Suns are 4-0 since making Collin Gillespie their starting point guard. He's shooting 57% from the 3 point line and has an 8:1 assist to turnover ratio in those games.

Nuggets got rid of him in the offseason even though they could have retained him for nothing (he was a restricted free agent on a two-way deal) so that Jalen Pickett wouldn't have any competition for the 3rd point guard spot.

Genius stuff.

I don’t understand how or why this continues to happen. Hartenstein (I think that’s how ya spell his name) totally blossomed away from the Nuggets. Same with Huff. How is it that we continually get these guys who don’t do jack crap for the Nuggets and then they leave to become great on other teams? It drives me nuts that it’s happened a lot at the C position where we are continually trying to find someone

I had to crunch the numbers.

MPJ before trade deadline - 19ppg, averaging a +/- of +6
MPJ post deadline - 15.8ppg, averaging a +/- of -4

I should prob do more advanced stats but it's clear - dude has totally turned down the effort dial since the deadline.

It is also comical that on the nights of February 3rd, 5th and 6th, Porter dropped 36, 39, and 30 points. The deadline was on the 6th. At no point in the entire season has Porter again gone over 30.

Was he wanting to get dealt?

MPJ is a Jokic merchant with a bad hamstring. Doesn't take a genius to see what his issue has been. Him missing 3's isn't an issue imo.

Does Wilson signing that big a contract with NY affect the Broncos in any way?

I know last year the cap hit the Broncos took on had his Steelers cap hit subtracted from it, and the POS took as little as possible with them seemingly to spite us.

Booth and Malone are a case study in how not to run a team with a generational talent. Lucky for us that Joker is a quality guy and doesn’t seem to care enough about his legacy to ask out of this mess
How many titles does he have to win to meet your expectations? Do other teams not deserve titles? A few legends of the game won a bunch of titles and now people think that's normal. I'm sure top players want to win every year but things are just too competitive. All you can ask for is a shot and the Nuggets have that this year and next at least. Losing regular season games with stars sitting means absolutely nothing to their chances of winning. These guys can win on the road in the playoffs, chasing home court is just not worth it.

We have five guys who are bonafide playoff rotational quality players. Ideally you have 9 or 10, but at a minimum 8.

Jokic is one of the greatest players of all time having what is arguably the greatest regular season in history and we've gone out of our way to make our roster worse.

Last year's squad was not good enough. We didn't have the shooting or the perimeter defense to win it all. And then, this offseason, they replaced the trio of KCP, Justin Holiday, and Reggie Jackson with Russell Westbrook and nobody else. That is a drastic reduction in shooting ability and defensive versatility.

They decided to bet a season of Jokic's prime on Hunter Tyson, Jalen Pickett, Zeke Nnaji, Dario Saric, and Julian Strawther and the result has been an absolute disaster.

Westbrook had a good few weeks but his shot selection and turnovers are absolute killers.

Watson is wildly inconsistent. He's our 6th or 7th guy at this point, but he should be more like our 10th man. He's a year or two away from being a dog we can count on in a playoff series. And Strawther, if he gets there at all, is a year or two behind Watson.

Can someone please explain to me why SGA is seemingly a shoe in for the MVP? I went to go put a futures on Jokic winning MVP again and was astounded to see SGA the favorite at -1800. Haven't watched much of the guy but is he really having that stellar of a season?? Hell, Jokic will most likely be the first player EVER to end the season top 3 in PPG, APG and RPG... this can't just be voter fatigue can it?

NBA voters are worse than NHL voters by far. All kinds of bullshit factors go into their mind, and the biggest one is "i don't like that guy so i'm voting for this guy instead"

They don't want anyone they don't personally like to get as many MVPs as "the greats".

Dwayne Wade was bitching that Jokic shouldn't have 3 MVPs because his team wasn't the number 1 team one year he won it. Motherf***er, it says MVP not "best player on the best team". The Nuggets aren't even a playoff team without Jokic. Oklahoma is still good without SGA.

Also thank god the Bucks didn't have their 2 stars tonight. MPJ gets fed by Joker and still only puts up 23 points. And I'm not even mentioning our bench. Because they effectively don't exist.

ESPN has been openly campaigning for SGA all season. It's not voter fatigue, it's sportswriters being spiteful idiots.

They don't want Jokic to win X number of MVP awards because they don't want him to be compared to the all time greats. It's no different than all those horrible baseball writers over the years giving all-timers (Maddux, Mays, Aaron, Musial, etc) a "no" vote on their first ballot because they don't want anybody to get 100% of the vote because their favorite guys from the past never got 100%.

There was a rumor that Real Madrid actually wants Saric next year. If he declined his player option and went across the pond that would be a gift to the Nuggets. What a horrible signing. I blame Jokic for that one though - Saric was his buddy. Jokic went 50% as a GM this year (hit on Westbrook, wild miss on Saric).

The NBA as a whole despises Jokic. They can't stand the fact that he's their best player. They'd much rather it be a more marketable personality in a much bigger market (which is code for "Lakers").

Some truth to this for sure but it's more about how the NBA has become about athleticism over fundamentals. Jumping over two guys for a dunk is more marketable than tricking defenders so a player is left open for a layup. I do think the league has moved past the big markets as a must because too many fans care about players over club now

I don’t know if I believe that entirely. They are much happier when the Lakers and Knicks are doing well than when the Nuggets are. The exception might be Milwaukee, but despite the fact that it’s not a huge market has been around a long, long time.

The league also likes teams and players who sink threes consistently which the Nuggets also don’t do.
