Not that I’m a tennis expert, but I think it was because he is/was so quick. Clay courts play slower and he could run around the ball, so to speak. There are always players that play better on clay courts, for whatever reason. It is such a different type of surface to play on.

We may have actually dodged a bullet this time:
“I checked on (Cancar) at halftime, obviously, and he was in good spirits. Wasn’t in any pain,” Malone said. “But I would hate to be premature with any speculation in terms of what happened. … He seemed to be fairly pain-free. It just felt a little uncomfortable when he came down. … Hopefully it’s nothing major and we can get him back out there, because I thought Vlatko with that second unit was really, really effective.”

Hopefully all the tests come back clear and he misses a minimal amount of time.

Ok... If it's overrated then how come we don't see someone getting one on every team every night?

You have to be genuinely good at all aspects of the game to even come close to getting 10+ in 3 separate stat categories.

I think the triple double thing is worthwhile for a stat, but the ones that truly amaze me are the TD's with steals or blocks. Very rare - those are almost their own seperate elite category. I'd love to see a guy come along these days with 10+ steals. I think that one is a truly dying breed just due to the ball movement and everyone chucking up 3's.

You seriously don't get how it's become the most overrated, overused stat? Players go looking for it nowadays.

Look at just fifteen years ago. That's still in the 2000s. The 2008-2009 season had 27 TOTAL triple doubles.

Domantas Sabonis had 26 BY HIMSELF last year.

You don't see the issue?

The way the game is played has changed but that doesn't mean its a useless stat. Its just like a hat trick in hockey.

In 2008 there were 65 total hat tricks in the NHL. Last year 115. Just because players are getting more triple doubles now it becomes over rated? NHL players are just looking for hat tricks these days so we should ignore that stat.

Huge difference between the two.

For one, more shot attempts overall and especially more three point attempts results in more rebounds being collected overall from missed shots.

The rise in offense and rules to ensure more offense has also seen a huge rise in scoring, thus resulting in more individual points being scored.

There's a reason why double doubles used to be valued quite highly and triple doubles were rare. Now, triple doubles are more akin to double doubles in their likelihood and achievements.

Well first and foremost, he's got a VERY heavy forehand (lot of topspin) and the ball already bounces much higher on clay so it's incredibly hard to deal with over the duration of a match. On top of that, his movement and athleticism allow him to grind out points better than anyone in the world on a surface that is known for longer rallies.

Clay was always my favorite surface although you rarely ever play on it at the collegiate level.
