OT: Other Sports: Broncos, Nuggets, Rockies etc…Part VII

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
It sure would be nice to get a playoff game, this defense definitely deserves a game for what it's done this season.
I would agree but they also shouldn't be getting lit up that badly by the Chargers and Baltimore. Vance played it way too safe last game. He was too scared to go into man without Moss in the lineup because of what happened against the Browns. I have a terrible feeling that Burrow is going to eat the defense alive.

Has moss already been ruled out for Saturday's game?

He’s been practicing on a limited basis and on back to back days. They said he was targeted for this week but haven’t heard anything yet either.
I hadn't heard that. That's definitely good news. Hopefully the chiefs decide to not play their starters and he can go for that game. I'd hate that one a competitive level, but I want a playoff game damnit.

They need the Miami, and the Bungles to lose one more. Or they need to win one more. I don't know what happens if the Broncos and Colts are both 9-8 to end the season. We won the head to head, but I'm not sure how far down the tie breaker tree that is.
My understanding is if it’s the Broncos and Colts on 9-8 then the Bronocs are in. If the Broncos, Colts and Chargers are 9-8, Broncos are out because we no longer have the tiebreaker

So we just need to win one game?
Yes. If we win one of the last two, we're in no matter what. The Bungles are after the same spot and will be a hard game. If KC wins next week, or Buffalo looses, they'll have nothing to play for in the final week. That should be an easy game for us, because I doubt they'll risk Mahomes getting hurt. But if they lose and Buffalo wins..... That'll be another tough game for us. And the Bungles play us and the Steelers to finish the season. They have a pretty good chance at stealing this spot from us.

Yeah that was the scenario going into this week and it hasn't changed because no one else chasing lost. I like that route anyways, not backing into the playoffs because others lost. That being said, yeah I'd rather play the Chiefs with them not trying and the league not worried if they get another win.

Fellas, got an Avs question that I hope you all can help with.

I remember hearing a story about a young Joe Sakic. Something like a coach or management told him he needed to bulk up over the summer before a season, and he did and the results affected his on-ice play. He wasn't as agile or shifty etc.

This ringing any bells for anyone? I'm quite confident it was Sakic

I'm not old enough to have watched young Sakic play but his point totals do not suggest he suffered any decline.

Perhaps you're thinking of the Avs brass telling Nathan MacKinnon to bulk up since said brass included Sakic and Roy? That definitely hurt MacKinnon for several years until he took off in his 5th pro season. IIRC he was in the 215-220 range for a couple of seasons after his rookie year.

Pretty sure they told both Sammy and Tyson Jost to bulk up as well and it also affected their play adversely.

I don't recall that story, I'm afraid.

One story I do recall from Sakic's youth, was that when he first was coming up, his skating wasn't up to par, and he had to do lots of lower body training to get it there.

This is gonna be one of those games where MPJ goes off in the 1st quarter then ends up with 5 more points rest of the way.
