NESN OT: NESN production issues (audio, video, graphics, programming)

I'm not usually one to pick up on or even care much about this kind of stuff, but the echo effect when Jamie was talking, or when they had interviews was terrible last night.

You could hear them playing around with the levels which I find a good thing. Means someone is trying to get it right.

I doubt that highly.

Hard to believe that professional sound engineers can't get this right. I wonder what the problem is? Equipment?

There was one check into the boards (1st period, I think) that nearly blew my house up. My dog was pissed.

Oh I can. Who knows what same goobers they have been employing all these years and that the technology has passed them.

Most people that are into technology crave the latest and greatest, you see it on AVS forums and HD forums and many computer geek sites. Unbelievable that NESN wouldn't at least ensure the operators were trained before rollout. Something's wrong.

Agreed. I have a home theater and have spent a lot of time in AVS Forums and it is shameful that this is the quality they have.

Do you guys/gals find the audio that bad? Are you talking about home theater setup or the sound in general? i don't have a home theater set up and I don't mind the sound. I mean, it's not the greatest but I have hear much, much worse. Aside from technical glitches every now and then I'm content.

We wouldn't be posting in here about it if we didn't and yes, it is that bad.

Folks with a home theater can tell the difference. And this difference is SD to HD land.

I had guys on AVS design my system. The first movie I watched in the basement was Pearl Harbor. My wife and kids came screaming from upstairs because it sounded like planes were in the basement. The audio for some movies is stunning. TV broadcasts are mostly ho hum, some sporting broadcasts are pretty good. NESN doesn't even try.

I have 5.1 in the living room and a simpler stereo two channels with a subwoofer in the bedroom and the sound sucks in either one. This year has actually gotten worse which is hard to believe.

Ever since NESN got a new production truck they have NOT been able to get in-house sound right. Listen to Rene's anthems, it sounds like he is in a tunnel.

The on ice sound is terrible, its like watching the game in an isolation booth. I want to hear the puck hit sticks and bodies crashing into broads, the "f#cks" and "$hits" from the players. When I can I'll switch to NBC for the better sound quality. I like listening to Jack and Brick but not enough to sacrifice audio, NESN needs to step it up.

It is night and day when you switch back and forth between the two.

The same usual of suckness tonight

All I can figure is that there are not enough complaints and/or this is the product they want to deliver, or they believe is better, or most people want. If people don't have SS then it doesn't really matter and most people don't. It just can't be that they are ill trained and we know they are well equipped.

My biggest issue with NESN is that damn ticker on the bottom of the screen and those stupid poll-results on top.
Seriously, I don't need to see the score of friggin NBA, MLB, NFL and college games all game long. Neither do I care about who likes what hockey movies.
That's just annoying.
