OT: OT: CF Montréal: Potato Edition

  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Honestly, it feels like CFM are a broken record. It's like the same thing over and over despite different coaches and rosters.

Yesterday's game was pretty boring overall. Probably too many new faces getting their rare minutes in MLS. There were some huge gaps in midfield though. Ironically, as much as some hate Piette, he was probably greatly missed yesterday. Loturi has a better passing game but looked horrible when defending. We've yet to lose 4-0 so I don't believe it's doom and gloom as much as some say. It depends on the next games. If we start with 7 losses :help:

I wasn't expecting much with a back line of Petrasso-Waterman-Jabang, Jabang!

The linkage between mid and front line is deficient. There was a ginormous gap in between both lines all game. That is something that Courtois should address. Saliba struggles with long range passing. I think we should play with three mids; Herbers, Saliba and Piette.

I think they were trying to stretch the field since Minny was pressing hard, but we couldn't put balls past their defense.

Early MLS season games are usually quite bad. No rhythm and not enough quality to make up for it.

We need to talk about LC's system. A video of Petrasso was posted today by Andy Coronado with him being overly aggressive, but we see that all the time regardless of who's playing CB. They do the equivalent of a hockey dman "pinching and/or overloading” leading to open space where they were supposed to be, expecting the WB to cover. That works in hockey, not in soccer. He did it all last year too, and when people were complaining about the WB's, it was actually the fault of the overly aggressive CB's. We saw it a bunch of times where Waterman did it and led to chances for Minny. Same with Jabang

I don't know what's going on with Alvarez but it better be something major to give not one, but two CB's, their first (ish) minutes in pro soccer when you only have a 3 man backline.

More decision making issues from LC. You know that Minny has a decently aggressive press, so your solution is to try and stretch the field by having two forwards (Owusu and Clark) stay pretty darn high, sometimes near the half line, and then also have Duke play not far behind them, leaving 3 - 5 Minny players regularly between the back and front lines.

You also decide to have Duke play as a 10 when he has shown every single time he plays that position that he just doesn't have it in him to play that role. He’s shown he can be successful as a pair of "10's" playing under a 9, but so far that's it.

Hopefully people are going to start drumming the beat louder of JMR not being a WB like Marinaro did the minute he was acquired. When you list the skills of a WB, he does not have them.

Your style is to forcefully play out of the back, yet history has shown that your starting keeper’s biggest weakness is playing the ball with his foot.

I get that as a coach/educator there's a fine line between pushing people out of their comfort zone when you think they can succeed, but an even bigger part is being able to identify people's strengths and weaknesses and designing systems so that they players you have can be successful.

Right now, LC is having major issues with that and it's costing us games. He will mostly make adjustments part way through the game, but more often than not, we're already playing catchup on the scoreboard and/or momentum so why do you continually start the same way when you know it’s not working.

These are just a few of my thoughts after last nights game.
