Oshawa Generals 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

Griffin seems like a great kid. Think he falls somewhere between 3rd and 5th round but probably really puts the points up at this level over next 2 years
I have him more in the 6th-7th round tbh. Likely a 5 year OHL player which will make him a good OA when Oshawa is good again (likely Gravelles OA year also).

He will need to get a wicked growth spirit if wants to make the next level but you he has heart, which is a tangible that is hard to teach.

Yes, similar to Cal Ritchie in terms of high character low maintenance type. Last season I would have said there’s not a chance in hell of Griffin ever sniffing the NHL, but he’s had an exponential growth in his game this year - - particularly in the second half.

Probably a bit optimistic for him to go in the 3rd round, but a strong playoff performance could elevate him similar to what happened with Beckett Sennecke last year.

I’d expect Griffin to go somewhere in the 4th round - - certainly not lower than the 5th. I agree that he’ll have two more years to put up some big numbers before heading to the AHL.

It would be nonsensical for any team to leave Griffin in junior for an OA season. He’s never going to have a physical game and his frame is never going to carry 200lbs, so there’d be nothing for him to “develop” as an OA.

I would say Cardwell profiles similarly and benefit from an OA season

Game 1 was an absolute boat race, certainly Oshawa’s best game in a few weeks. Jack Ivankovic was God-awful. No idea why they left him in so long when it was obvious after Danford’s goal that he just didn’t have anything tonight. Especially when Gillespie has played so well Oshawa throughout the season.

The only one worse than Ivankovic tonight was Konnor Smith. By far the biggest player on the ice but instead of using his size to hit people, Smith was only focused on taking embarrassing dives and flopping around on the ice in a pitiful attempt to draw penalties. I lost count of how many own zone turnovers he had tonight, and there’s no excuse for him to be bodied off the puck by much smaller players. Smith is a terrible skater with ZERO offensive ability, so if he’s not playing physical hockey he might as well be sitting in the press box.

Great to see Colby Barlow with the hat trick. Granted, one was a tap in and one bounced in off of him but maybe this can be the catalyst to turn around his disappointing season.

Speaking of hat tricks, the most cringeworthy moment of the game was when MacDonell scored his third of the night with a minute to go to make it 7-4. The goal was completely irrelevant and entirely insignificant, but some kook from Brampton decided he should throw his hat on the ice in jubilation. Which pretty much sums up the Steelheads.
Just curious what team are you the GM for? Or is a scout position.? You seem to have all the spot on analysis and hockey knowledge to school everybody in the forum? So what if a Brampton fan wants to celebrate one thing positive out of a pile of crap game. They paid their money to go to the game.

Yeah if scouts project him to grow in size I could see 3rd round
Could always be a late round steal you never know. I think scouts will value him similar to how Paul ludwinski was valued in kingston in wrights draft year(playing a lot of third line but still producing some points and having a lot of potential and speed)

Has shined when given the spotlight this year of course always playing behind sennecke, Ritchie, Barlow so he’s never going to fill the net but when 2/3 of them graduate next year and he’s back I’m sure he will be one of if not the leader (post deadline when sennecke gets traded)

The amount of diving from Brampton is giving me flashbacks to Ben Jones and those Ice Dogs team. Embarrassing to watch.
That is one of their better wins from the standpoint they played through a bunch of adversity and didn’t give up like we’ve seen a good chunk of the year. Pretty hilarious play by play guys. Haha.

Noticed Brampton seemingly walked right off and it didn’t show them saluting the fans that were there? That’s about as embarrassing as their turnouts. Win lose or draw you ALWAYS do that for your fans no matter if there’s 5 or 5000 of them

No, Brampton didn’t stick around to acknowledge the handful of Steelhead fans - - but the Generals saluted all of the Oshawa fans after the game.

This is so humiliating for the Brampton franchise.

Playing in an absolute dump of an arena and then have more Oshawa fans than their own fans in the building. And then to have the Oshawa players doing a victory salute at centre ice after the game.

I honestly feel sorry for the Brampton players.

I agree

Pretty unreal some big name players- Porter martone, Carson Rehkopf, Jack Ivankovic, Luke Misa all play in this dumpster fire of an organization

The only thing more disappointing than the crowd in Brampton was the play of Jack Ivankovic. He was atrocious, maybe even worse than he was in Game 1. Struggling to control rebounds and getting himself badly out of position.

Ivankovic looked “spectacular” in Game 2 when Oshawa was firing shots from long distance and bad angles directly at him with no traffic in front. Once they started driving the net and crashing the crease tonight, Ivankovic was hopeless.

Maybe the Brampton brain trust will figure that since Ivankovic bounced back from such a terrible performance in Game 1 with a win in Game 2, he can replicate the same feat on Thursday night.

Gillespie has played much better against Oshawa in both the playoffs and in the regular season.

It is pretty crazy Ivankovic was seen as a first round talent and a 17-year-old WJC Canada goalie.

Oster needs to play better too

Oshawa's defense and coverage in their own end has been weak IMO. Lots of turnovers. Hopefully they get better as the series moves forward. :)

Connor Hellebuyck is the best goalie in the world right now and look at his stats in the first round last year- 5.23GAA and a 0.870

His team has been leaving him high and dry every night.

The Officials are doing everything possible to not give Oshawa the man advantage tonight. The boys are battling through it so far. Big goal to end the 2nd.

Tonight was a great example of why I’m always explaining that the refs are irrelevant when a team plays well enough. It wasn’t going to matter how many penalties Oshawa took or how many non-calls Brampton got, because Oshawa was in complete control from start to finish.

The coach FINALLY paired up Sennecke and Ritchie together on the same line and almost immediately they teamed up for a highlight reel goal to open the scoring and Oshawa never looked back.

Porter Martone’s incredible shot made it 2-1 and gave Brampton a glimmer of hope, but another brutal rebound given up by Jack Ivankovic right to the stick of Luke Torrance was the nail in the coffin for Brampton in Game 4 - - and almost assuredly in their season too.

Seeing Carson Rehkopf going full meltdown and screaming at the coach after Oshawa’s empty net goal summed up how badly in disarray Brampton is. Angus MacDonell shouldn’t even be playing but he’s trying to do what he can with one arm, although it’s not much. Martone was so dejected after the game, it’s almost like he’s resigned himself to the reality that Brampton’s disappointing season will be coming to an end in Oshawa on Friday night.

Why isnt Sennecke playing?

Like seeing Rogowski go up and Martin down
My guess: minor tweak and since you’re up 3-1 at home with the best home record in the east they elected to sit him.

Could be day to day and if there’s a game 6 maybe he plays then.

Remember he got injured last years playoffs. If he’s injured again you guys are for sure not getting past the second round
