If you say so. I do believe that North Bay would have worked out another deal, had Vaughn not come. Historically, that's what happens almost every single time and it's never particularly surprising. I can count on one hand the number of times that big time trades have completely fallen apart due to a NTC. There's very little evidence to support your position that teams don't give a f*** and will just go for any deal, even if they have already courted a kid's family for weeks and turned his life upside down.

Fundamentally, I don’t disagree. However, my point still is that the onus is on the team holding the NTC blocker to make it right as best they can. It is not on the other team to accept less to “save face.” That is my only point. Yes, give the team the time to make it right but if they can’t then there is no obligation to take less. If they take less it is because that less is still more than the alternative. That is all I am saying. But, fundamentally, I agree they should at least try to work it out before going to other possible deals.

They take less because it gives them a good reputation with young players who know they won't get screwed around for months while being involved in trade talks. Often times when teams don't make deals, it's because a player without a NTC doesn't want to be moved, but they don't do it anyways. Reputation means a lot in this league.

Maybe that's why most teams never win. And London does because they're thinking of the team first and not hurting anyone's feelings.

There is a flip side to that coin. Boyd has not traded young players to acquire elite 19 year olds and some would say that is exactly why he has not won a championship after being the top regular season team 3 years in the past 5.
