Cut/Released: Orioles fire Brandon Hyde

manager of the year brandon hyde

how quickly that team fell apart
Started last year sometime around June and hasn't been able to be fixed since. I'm assuming Elias is on the hot seat now to fix the pitching situation. The Morton/Gibson signings along with a lack of drafted pitching prospects his entire tenure so far in Baltimore are huge red flags. That and the Rogers trade for Stowers and Norby was a colossal misjudgment of talent by the front office. Stowers is starting to look like an all-star OF, Norby looks like a solid everyday IF'er, and Rogers looks like he'll never make it back to the majors again.

Solid start to the Tony Mansolino campaign.

Good thing Elias signed him for his Veteran work ethic and leadership....SMH

Just a terrible off-season by the Orioles. Team should have been set as a 90+ win team for the next half decade-plus. The GM should be fired ASAP and the new owner needs to loosen the pursestrings a little bit unlike the cheapskate predecessor.

The more I think about the state of the Orioles, the more I believe that the Rogers for Stowers/Norby trade was probably a pivotal moment in the mismanagement of the franchise by Elias. He thought he could unlock some kind of secret superpower that Rogers had yet to unlock while unloading two top 100 prospects for what will be a pitcher that may never make it back to the Majors. If they had never done that trade, they would have had the prospect depth to be able get a #1/#2 guy in the offseason. But because Elias lost prospect depth last year, every team basically started with asking for Mayo, Basallo, or Kjerstad. And, of course, Elias's tendency has to be to overvalue his position players and undervalue prospect pitching/development. So it makes sense that he would have gotten fleeced in the Rogers trade and yet be unwilling to part with one of Mayo or Kjerstad to keep his team from floundering this year. As soon as Rodriguez got hurt in pre-season, Elias needed to do whatever it took to keep his team competitive.

Hyde was just the sacrifice for Elias' failure to properly evaluate his pitching and his overuse of analytics in the development of his prospect players.
