Trade for old, brittle guys on the decline...once they get injured, you have a perfect excuse for why they didn't advance.
It's actually pretty genius

Which trade target would you have suggested who can take a slapshot to their finger and get away unscathed? Suggesting it's because he's brittle is kind of stupid

Shitty luck, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Hopefully he’ll be back for the playoffs. I just feel for Dubas for once, no matter what he does it just seems like he doesn’t get that luck that he needs.
The bad parts is if he misses the playoffs and we do lose it will be just enough of an excuse for Shanny to extend him and we will have to go through all the same thing again as Dubas runs the core back again

Happens. That's why you add depth

Good thing is just finger. He can still skate and stay in shape. Should be fresh ready to go for playoffs

Some of you need to chill.
Who is the depth that we have that can bring what ROR can. What he brings is why we went and traded for him

So annoying. When we really could use time to gel lines....now he'll come back right before the playoffs and it'll be like we're trying to piece together unfamiliar guys again....

Keefe said the Maple Leafs expect the veteran forward, who was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 17, back before the playoffs. He will see a specialist about the injury Monday.

Under the rules of long-term injured reserve, O'Reilly will be out until at least April 1, when the Maple Leafs face the Ottawa Senators.

ROR at least had a few weeks in the lineup before he got hurt, so they have some idea of who he works well with etc. If it were McCabe that was out I'd agree.

And if he does it's for one shift.. Frustating.
Long season and these guys are pros.

Look what Boy genius Jon Cooper accomplished sitting players. motivated his top line so much by sitting them a period on Saturday that they turned around on Sunday to get outshot 24-4 after 2 periods and lose 6-0 to Carolina.

I hate to be a conspiracist but if Matty is happy tomorrow and himself then we might as well piece the two and two together.

Ever since RoR was traded for, I have noticed AM34 to be almost sulky. But maybe I’m looking too much into this.
If he is being sulky...it might have to do with Management HAVING to bring in ROR because we don't have anyone on the team who has proven to raise their game in the Playoffs. I can see someone getting a bit offended...but they shouldn't be because he was brought in because of the obvious deficiencies in our team come playoff time.

All I know is that if AM asks for crazy money after being paid crazy money (because of the term of 5yrs) on his next contract, we are in trouble. If AM and MM did not learn that grabbing all the cookies from the jar and leaving none for anyone else is not hurting both the team and themselves...I don't know what to say.

Could very well be a bit of an ego clash in the locker room. I could honestly see ROR being that type of guy who calls out teammates if they're slacking, but that's just my assumption.

I agree...it's not like ROR stops being a Captain type figure just because he doesn't wear a letter anymore. Let's hope we are totally wrong and something else is bugging AM.

This is why I've been concerned ever since the excitement of all these trades wore off after the first few hours of intrigue. Everyone we traded for is either a scrub or a rental. Yikes guys. Just yikes.
