Options for Center

Just posted in other thread, but I think we need to look at another #2C vs. a #1. I don't see us getting a bonafide #1 right now, or this season period.

If Zib goes down we're in trouble. Need at least another 2C and we can rotate them, roll two "top lines". It won't be perfect, but it'll be a lot better than what we have now.

And ideally a bottom guy. I was thinking of Winnik, but I don't know much about him.

Agree with this. Getting a 'legit' 1 C is likely a bridge too far or means we'd have to give up something we likely can't really afford to part with right now.

Hopefully they can find a younger guy with some upside as 2/3C with room for improvement.

Have heard Grigorenko's name floating around as a possible 3C candidate but I don't know anything about him
 
I wouldn't be too unhappy with Duchene. Probably a little undervalued since the Avs suck so bad. On the other hand, feels a little bit silly making a big move to get 2 seasons before he leaves as a free agent.

Winnik as fourth C I'm all for though.

1. Send a NY supermodel to Edmonton to seduce McDavid and make him fall in love. After they marry have her tell him that he really needs to be in NY for her to have a career. :)

If that fails or we need to move faster....

2. Have a Dolan confidant buy Edmonton. Once the new owner is in place have him openly start criticizing McDavid for not winning a cup. Once McDavid back talks trade him to NY because the players do not run this organization! :D

Brilliant. Especially #2.

Having lived in both NYC and Montreal, I believe Montreal would win the "gorgeous girl" tactic. Either way, he'll have access to all of them with his superstar status and cash.

Good thread. Gorton talked about how they're looking in both markets for center help and haven't made a decision yet.

I can see them picking up middle-six pivot via trade and let Zib, Hayes, Miller, and mystery box have at it. A team with above average wingers, defense and goaltending and a pile of middle-six line centers.

Is there something magical about next off-season that somehow makes it different from the previous 20, during which no opportunity to grab a bonafide #1C has presented itself?

Nope. But there's usually one 1C being shopped around cause his coach hates his ****ing guts. And now they've got a couple guys developing. Might have enough assets in a couple years to grab a bonafide guy in the trade market.
 
They'll move Miller to C and go with Zib, Hayes, Miller. It's not the best solution but I don't see anything better short of trading away someone like McDonagh.

If Faksa is really available, we should go out and get him. He's Czech, so it's fitting he joins our team.

Stepan trade looks worse and worse. Duchene, RNH, and MacKinnon trade only if it includes Staal
