Proposal: Operation Quinn Hughes - How far are you willing to go?

How far are you willing to go This off-season to improve?

  • All In: Trade Top Prospect (Willander) + 1st | Or Trade Ep40 for Shake Up

  • Significant Move: Trade Dpetey + 1st

  • Major Move: Trade 1st Rounder ONLY | Or Major Roster Player

  • Minor Move: Trade only Mid Picks + Mid Prospects | or Mid Roster Players

  • Stay: Do not make any trades, Sign UFA’s Only

You do what's best for the LOGO and if that's not enough for your captain then keeping him was never in the cards

Of course this does not mean rebuilding it means acquiring the right players at the right ages not some last ditch desperation BS for rentals

whats the offer though? Of course we are willing to trade a 15th pick. But what are we getting back in return?

If we wanted to follow Washington's model, we need to look at players that are obviously talented but are in unhappy situations/have a "damaged goods" label.

I'm thinking JT Miller and Andrei Kuzmenko could be just the tonic we need.

I still believe in the core of:
Hughes
EP40
Boeser (or equivalent replacement with same cap hit)
Demko
Hronek

Solid 2nd tier group
DeBrusk
Garland
Hoglander
Suter
Lankinen
M Pettersson
Myers (if deployed in the right roster spot)

Good depth players
Joshua
Sherwood
O'Connor
Blueger
Chytil (he would be in 2nd tier if not for injury risk)

Exciting emerging group of young players
D-Petey
Mancini
Lekkerimaki
Raty
Willander (TBD)

Purposely left out other prospects who don't have any experience at the NHL level or players who are are clearly tweeners.

The roster isn't perfect but that list contains 20+ players who could play solid roles on any NHL team. In a year where everything went wrong you don't want to make panic moves. Signing UFAs to fill the holes and tweaking around the edges is the correct course. Obviously they would have to be open to big trades if they were presented but I would take a more opportunistic approach rather than define it as a strategy.

In terms of teams around the NHL, which ones are looking to change directions? In that, Van doesn't have Now players who are going to come in and contribute big on your roster via trade. They finally got 3 very good top 4 D. They lack a 2C and a high end W.

So, talking about teams who are looking to get younger and maybe take a step back in their direction.

Who is doing that?

I think it is highly unlikely our management trades young players that they drafted and have developed in their system. They've built something on the farm, and you can see the culture in those players when they make the jump. If management is doing their job right, those are the players that define the culture they are trying to create, and they reflect the hockey they are trying to play and what they think a winner is.

For better or worse, there is a bigger plan than any single player on the team, and if any player isn't bought in to the bigger future, we have already seen that they are probably out sooner than later, even if that is the captain.

Depends on where you draw the line on "development." They've traded Fernstrom, Brzustewicz, and Dorrington so far.

There simply aren't any top centers available, even if the Canucks had the trading assets, which they really don't.

Wilander, Lekkerimaki and a first rounder is going to get you what? A J.T. Miller type, 30-plus center?
JT Miller got traded for a 1st, a mediocre 2nd line C that has a bad concussion history and a bottom pairing d man prospect. The 1st rounders cancel out, but Willander and Lekkerimaki are far far better talents than Chytl and Mancini. That package would get you a high end young under 25 talent.

We are not just trying to appease Quinn Hughes, we are also trying to build around a generational talent who is now at his peak, so we need to add elite players right. I would rather go Pettersson and Lekk for an elite C.
