Few thoughts about OT:

- Nasty deke and footwork from MacK to almost end it but put it over the net. Disgusting moves.

- Incredible backcheck by Drouin to prevent the 2 on 1. He was absolutely flying and immediately pointed to Toews to take the puck carrier Thompson as he was taking away the pass. Imagine if it was Mikko instead of JD to start OT. Sabres might have finished the game on that 2 on 1. Drouin backchecked like a madman.

- Toews gave Thompson absolutely nothing. Thompson cut to the middle, Toews read it and stickchecked. Rode him into the side boards, won the puck battle with a good shove and quick stick.

FWIW, I think the officials got the original call on the ice right. It's tough, but if you blow the play dead immediately every time a guy looks hurt, you're absolutely going to run into a situation where a guy fakes the serious injury to draw a quick whistle... I think the rule as it is, is fine. If there's a threat for a scoring chance the play stays live until either that scoring chance is dead or the defending team gets the puck.

Where I have issue with the call is exactly what Toews said. Kelly literally did nothing, he didn't initiate the contact with Benson, he was just skating through the blue paint and Benson pulls a late move to try and slip his defender... And of course Kelly wins that battle and knocks the tiny guy down.

IMO it should have been no goal due to Goalie Interference and I really think had they looked at the review longer they would have saw what Benson did and how Kelly didn't initiate the contact at all.

It's insane how much this guy has bought into the way the Avs play and what Bednar wants from his guys.


They need to re-sign him and give him some proper term here soon. As someone else already said as well the Halifax connection is very real between he and Mack.

Honestly just hearing them admit mistakes after the fact would be a nice first step. Refs just need to take some accountability, that alone would change the culture for the better.
