Blue Jays GDT: Opening Day!

To be fair that's also like 30 years ago too. Game has changed quite a bit.

The Royals kinda did it in 14-15 but even then it wasn't just speed. They had some elite bat on ball guys
The game has not changed much. You still score runs the same way. The whole the game has change is BS imo. People were saying that in the dead puck era and then McJesus came into the league and ohhhh no the game has not changed much. What has changed is the culture not the game. If you steal a base it's as good as it was in the 90ies. Jays have been consistently among the team with the less stolen base for the last couple of years. That's fine if you hit with power. That's not if you don't.

Yeah you have one McJesus now, you had two dozen of them in the 80s...

They didn't even need more homeruns today, they just needed to not hit a ground ball directly at an infielder every time they got a runner on first with one out. Ugh.

Man I thought that Charlie was bad when it came to in-game adjustments and managerial IQ. But my goodness, Schneider has got him beat by leaps and bounds right now.

He is beyond clueless when it comes to how long he should leave his starting pitcher in the game.

I disagree, Francis had a no hitter going into the 5th, 2 of the 5 runs came from errors by Vladdy on Bichette's great throw. Also Vladdy tagging early later cost them a run and should've been tied going into the 9th. This loss had nothing to do with not taking his pitcher too late or too soon.

I originally stayed away to start the year because the presumed direction of the team with the prospect of Guerrero and Bichette leaving at season's end for nothing was just so depressing that I couldn't get enthused about baseball. But I watched and the contract signing at least meant this wasn't going to be a total downer.

But now I realize that the time I was watching and at least relatively content was in part driven by the fact that this place is unbearable when the slightest bad thing happens. It's not everyone. Hell, it's probably only 2 or 3 users that are the primary culprits. And it's not even "oh, you just don't want dissent or negativity." It's that I forgot how annoying it is watching certain people screech like toddlers throwing tantrums at every little thing, as if their moods only exist at extremes with no modulation.

So I guess I'm out for a while. It's a shame that I remember when these threads were fun even when the team actually was garbage and not over-reactionary "garbage" because that just makes it worse.

I have no idea why it’s allowed here for a poster to make 30 posts in every game - even most wins - having a tantrum and calling the players garbage. It makes the thread unreadable and unenjoyable to participate in and I’ll be spending less and less time here as well unless it’s addressed.

That's why I left Twitter or X for blue sky, there aren't as many people, but similar to Twitter without the negativity.

This has always been a neat small group with pretty intelligent Jays discussion but it's being ruined because one poster makes a tantrum post every time a Blue Jay records an out and it adds up to almost to as many posts as every other poster here combined.

the ignore list is a wonderful thing.

I've tried using ignore lists before and it makes threads nearly unreadable in a different way because you have people responding to seemingly nothing, one-sided arguments, etc. and it's confusing as hell, and if a blocked poster starts a thread you can't see it (not that that would be a problem here).

To me, the sort of behaviour we're discussing here is explicitly not allowed :

HF rules said:
4) Threadjacking/OT/Politics: Posts that waste space or time on the site, annoy users due to characteristics or repetition, disrupt the site functionality, or cause threads to veer off topic may be considered “threadjacking/OT”. This also applies to signatures, user titles, avatars, profile fields, and so forth. Stay on topic as much as possible. Post new threads in the appropriate forum only. Political discussion is not permitted on the forums except within the narrowly defined scope of hockey-related matters.

If you're annoying everyone by making the exact same tantrum/rage posts over and over again and causing the thread to veer off-topic when annoyed people respond to your BS ... that should be addressed.

This is the change i personally would have tried. Springer's been swinging it well so give him a shot at cleanup. Gimenez i don't think is quite consistent enough for it.

Rest of that lineup is a bit ghastly though. Kirk/Straw/Schneider is a black hole.
