Blue Jays GDT: Opening Day!

DFA this f***ing schlub. He sucked in Spring and he still sucks now.

Sure Santander should have had that but he isn't the guy who loaded the bases. twice.
It's fine to have a guy you're going to use when you lose by 4-5 runs. Pretty much all teams have one and usually it's not a good pitcher but just a guy who will accept to throw many innings in a losing situation. But that guy should not pitch in a game you lead 4-2 like ever.

Yup. He shouldn't be anything more than an innings eater if he does get more looks. Every pitching staff generally needs one of those types.

Yar's underlying metrics weren't exactly amazing either. I don't think he would have been that much better.

Yarbrough has like a 7 year sample size of pretty consistently being a very solid bulk guy who can chew through 100-120 innings with a roughly league average ERA.

He's literally the exact player you want in a situation like this and a game like this, and it was incredibly predictable that this would happen given Scherzer's pre-existing injury issues and red flags during spring training. And instead they cut him to keep two bad one-inning relievers who have already been pounded.

And Barnes is heading out to get knocked around now.

It's crazy that this game was 100% winnable before the coach and GM decided to throw it away. That loss will be 100% on management. I don't want to see a single person criticize the players if the offense don't come back in the game.
I checked and it was 4-2 IIRC and then saw all those bases occupied, went to another page, came back and ...

Does it matter though?

Aren't the Yankees and Dodgers already booked for the WS?
