He'd be a reasonable choice. So would Marchand in some respects.
Marchand would be interesting from the angle of being a trade deadline rental that actually had big results immediately.

But Bennett has the production and the story, so I don't see anybody else winning it for Florida.

I can still hear Gary Bettmans voice saying, "the conn smythe trophy goes to the player that has excelled through ALL the playoffs, this years winner is Jean Sebastien Giguere" BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I know it’s not the nba, if it was McDrai would have like 4 cups by now. But players of legendary rank win championships, that’s just how it always plays out. There’s something that feels really…not right… about them getting this close and failing twice in a row.

I can’t fathom a universe where McDavid never wins a cup, but at the same time there’s only so many chances you get a real crack at it and this will be “close but no cigar” #2. It’s hard to reconcile.
Exactly how I feel. Most legendary NHL'ers eventually hold the cup at least once in their career. It feels almost unimaginable that both McDavid and Draisaitl could retire without touching the cup.

But I do agree that their D and Skinner could be the biggest reasons for that happening.

I would be more than happy if the Devils became what the Detroit Pistons were back in the day. LOL.
Free associating here from your point about the Devils, which is a good one.

But the Pistons are an interesting comparison with respect to this years playoffs and Edmonton. Because as I recall it, and maybe my memory is playing tricks, the Pistons with Dantley and Lambeer took several seasons before they learned to get by the “Bird-Mchale-Parish” Celtics. Like Detroit was a force but couldn’t get by Boston . . . until they finally did and then the torch had been passed and they won a couple of titles. Until the Michael Jordan led Bulls learned to get by them.

I think maybe that’s what’s going on with Edmonton and Florida. Is this the year the Oilers learn to get by them?

Edmonton could certainly use some contributions from people not named McDavid and Draisaitl. Something from Nugent-Hopkins, Nourse, Bouchard et al.. right now Florida is limiting McDrai and then taking away everyone else.

Plus the 2d period of all three games has been a disaster for Edmonton. What’s with that? It’s a pattern in the series.

I’ll guess it’s a tv scheduling issue
Yes. This was supposed to be the break between games 2 and 3 for travel and games 3 and 4 were supposed to be this Thursday and Saturday. Because the both conference finals went 5 games, the Cup final game 1 and 2 got moved up and the rest of the games shifted up a timeslot to avoid NBA conflict.

The original schedule:
Game 1: Saturday, June 7
Game 2: Monday, June 9
Game 3: Thursday, June 12
Game 4: Saturday, June 14
Game 5: Tuesday, June 17
Game 6: Friday, June 20
Game 7: Monday, June 23

The adjusted schedule after the short third round:
Game 1: Wednesday, June 4
Game 2: Friday, June 6
Game 3: Monday, June 9
Game 4: Thursday, June 12
Game 5: Saturday, June 14
Game 6: Tuesday, June 17
Game 7: Friday, June 20

If you notice starting with Game 3 they are the exact same days just shift one game forward. The Finals schedule for the most part is locked in more than a year in advance for broadcast (both US and international). If you go back and look and look at the past two years the schedule was the exact same both year in regards to day as they relate to the calendar (starting the first Saturday in June). Next year if one of the 3rd round series goes 6 games the Final will start Saturday June 6.

Should be a great game tonight with Edmonton in pretty much a must win situation and after all the extracurricular activities of the last game.

I don't expect too much carry over of the stupid stuff if any at all but I would keep my head up in this one.

I don’t care how heartless I am.

I really wanna watch the Stuart Skinner dumpster fire rage tonight.

I’m not even rooting against the Oilers. They’re just run by idiots. All across the board. At every level.

The problem is the Oilers are trying to play like the Panthers and that's not their game. They need to get back to their game in this one or they're done

Reading between the lines here: you want Skinner to have a bad game so Fitz can acquire him for cheap to backup Marky and EDM can sign Allen for a lot of money.
