OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

The Devils in 2023 looked light years better with Luke in the lineup when he came in for Graves. If Lindy was smart after G1, he would've made the move but he attributed the Game 1 loss to fatigue from G7 Rags win and scheduling like some of our fans did. Wish he was more proactive that series before it was too late.

Who knows how they look with a full lineup this year v Carolina too which is why I don't take any stock of what we did this year besides the great playoff games from Nico and Nemec (he's also the perfect dman to break the Canes aggressive forecheck)
Luke was awesome in the games he played that series. Just a breath of fresh air. He could actually move the puck out of the zone.

Nemec was also very good against the Canes this year as you said. We should have the D-core to compete against that type of forecheck. The depth was a HUGE issue and, after the injuries, the biggest reason why we lost against the Canes this year imo.

Just a reminder if you are a playoff team your first round picks are pretty pointless to keep. Trade them for nhl talent to win now! That concludes my Ted talk

For the right player, sure. For every success there are plenty of examples of trading 1st round picks for players that don't end up having much impact. Pointing out the time when a star player basically forced his way off the team he was on is probably not the best example to use as it doesn't happen all that often.

Hurricanes when they reach the Conference Finals ^^^

I'll give the Canes some credit as they have been a good franchise ever since they ended that 9 year playoff drought. They tried to get better by bringing Rantanen there and that kind of backfired on them. They have alot of caps pace this offseason so I expect them to be active. All of there best player aside for Burns and Orlov are signed for next year. Morrow and Nikishin could probably fill those 2 spots on defense for a dirt cheap cap hit combined.

They've got good players and a good system that will keep them towards the top of the division, but they're lacking the gamebreaker to truly take the next step. Rantanen could have been that type of player (although he's only had 1 goal in the 9 games since his back-to-back hat tricks), but thankfully it didn't work out.

This board has a weird obsession of overrating the Rags/Canes, probably PTSD

It's a combination of PTSD and not wanting Carolina to be so much worse than Florida since Carolina absolutely owns us every time we face them in the playoffs. Imagine what the Panthers would have done to us. It's just kind of depressing because it makes me feel like we are so much farther away from being a competitor than I thought :/

of course for the right player but you dont know who the right player is going to be some will miss some will hit the point is you have to start taking the shots. even better if its a pick 3 years from now like the story mentioned. i said it in another thread but a playoff team with a core established shouldn't be drafting in the first round for a long time.

The Hurricanes have $28M in cap space and already have 12 forwards, 6 defenseman and 2 goalies signed.

They can do a lot this summer, will be interesting to see what happens.

If I were them I would trade for a 2C, sign Marner and bring in an RD for Slavin (Hello Hamilton :))

Nice to see Florida held on. Kinda crazy that a team from the hockey hotbed of Florida will be in the Cup Final for a 6th straight year.
You trash talking the bona fides of a state where Jack and Quinn Hughes were born? (Yeah it was because Jim was playing for the Solar Bears at the time but details)
Tax implications 🤨
I hate this talking point, nobody wanted to be caught dead with the Panthers for the majority of their existence because they were terrible. Ditto the Lightning when they were both terrible and broke. Winning is the ultimate enticement, you could play in Cousinf***sburg, Arkansas and you'd get people going there if they were a competitive team.

The "no state tax" effect.

Bob and Barkov are the highest paid guys in Florida, they rank in the high teens league wide in terms of AAV.

Not only did they crush Calgary on the Huberdeau for Tkachuk trade in terms of on ice performance, they were also able to sign him for less money.

Canadian teams have 5 of the 10 highest aav deals in the league. 9 of the top 17.

Bobrovsky wasn’t exactly a discount when he signed there. Even this year he has the highest cap hit among goalies (not counting Price on LTIR).

The tax thing is overblown a bit. Non being able to deduct local and state taxes from federal taxes helps the no tax state teams a bit, but it has more to do with those teams cycling up at the same time. All of Tampa’s core guys were drafted and stayed. Florida drafted Barkov and Eckblad high. They got Bob have giving him more than anywhere else and having one of the few Russian enclaves in the area. Same for Huberdeau and they aren’t getting Tkachuk if they can’t offer him to Calgary.

They’ve brought in players but that has come after having success and starting to be a contender. Same with Dallas. No one coming to Florida if they are still owned by Alan Cohen in the cheap giving away tickets.

hehehehehehe.....GET F*CKED, CAROLINA. 😈 😈 😈 😈

heheheheheheh.......

Now I can switch gears and root for McDavid to win one (just got to take care of business tonight).

(and yes, it would suck if Corey f'n Douchebag won but I just don't like anyone on the Panthers)
