OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Referring to Fitz overcorrecting this team in 2023 after losing to Carolina, lol. It's a point that's been rehashed a ton so I don't want to spend the OoT discussing it but yeah I think the Devils could've let the players have more runway before making the moves they did

ok yea couldn't tell if you meant '23 or '18. Both were applicable to the jumping the gun thing.

The Panthers cheap shotted their way through the Leafs and are punishing the Canes as we speak. Our guys would be bugs on a windshield at this point.

Don’t get me wrong I hate that shit but it’s very effective plus their depth is stepping up. If you can punish our top guys and neutralize them it’s over.

I think at that point is where you would hope that Fitz and company find a fit to Hughes/Bratt to where said player can be a heavy power forward in playoff games. A Tom Wilson type, for example. This team isn't a finished product by any means in regards to a Cup, there's a few missing pieces imo but the general roster is there.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate this play style but the league doesn’t seem to give a shit and they reward it.

I think some of it has to do with the playoff hockey label, Florida has bent the rules and see how far they can get away with. I mean, people think the Devils did the same shit with the trap. Might as well see how far you get away with it before the league comes down on that style of play.

(Yes, I quoted myself like a complete psycho.)

Masterclass by Tom letting Nosek go for 1 year at league min

Why would they pay him when they wouldn’t pay Rantanen, or Dougie, or anyone else on that level?
They wanted to pay Rantanen. They tried, including trading for him knowing how much he wanted...he just didn't like the vibes lol. Dougie was a completely different scenario and not relevant.

Carolina's gunna offer him like 9m / year. They cheap bozos
Cheap bozos that are in the ECFs in a year when they essentially traded away a top line player for futures (Necas). Again, they tried to sign Rantanen and they were in the ballpark, he just never liked the org/situation/whatever. This argument they won't pay anyone is nonsense. This shit literally just happened.

Nevermind also being rumored to have tried to move Rantanen for Marner.

Because they got the best draw in recent history in the playoffs lol

Meanwhile teams like Kings, Avs and TB are out round 1

I mean...afaik numbers aren't released so idk how you know they tried to pay him what he wanted. People can say whatever they want. Meanwhile, in UFA, they just let players go because they don't want to pay up. Not sure how Dougie situation isn't relevant. Also, Pesce (but that's a bit more arguable). Also, Guentzel.

Carolina hasn’t faced a team of this caliber during these playoffs and they will have to up their game to be competitive in this series. Florida matches them physically man for man all over the ice and their advantage in being able to pressure other clubs doesn’t exist in this series.

And far from upping their game tonight,
I thought the ‘Canes were rusty after the layoff and also missed Chatfield. He’s a big player for them and if he doesn’t come back effectively it’s a huge blow. They had chances early and well into the 2d period and not finishing them got them way behind.

Also Anderson was finally human. While Bobrovsky was in his zone. That right there was another difference between their first two series, another advantage that was stood on its head.

I hate that team and will be happy if they lose. Brindamour bellyaching after the first penalty call on Aho was ridiculous. They are a team of divers and cheap shot artists.

A healthy NJ team beat up thr Panthers pretty well this season. The Panthers are phony tough guys. They turtle when they have to answer the bell to anyone that actually challenges them.

Sure seems weird for Rantanen/the Rantanen camp to mention the culture and that it didn't feel right being in Carolina....completely omitting the contract piece if that was the case. Canes alluded to similar.

The easy answer is we couldn't agree on terms and leave it as that. That isn't what happened on either side. Then of course you can debate/reference Rantanen's Canes' production combined with interviews where it looked like someone shot his dog.

Dougie situation isn't relevant because of their team structure at the time and the very reason(s) the Devs are likely trying to move him right now with 3 years left. DUH.

It's weird you guys aren't bothering to use the real reason for the cheapo Canes stigma. Guentzel (edit: might have missed this on your OP initially). Difference is now they need to backfill Necas and have the space to do it...which is why they went for Rantanen knowing his public contract demands...and why they tried to trade for Marner allegedly when it didn't workout.

We'll see what happens though. Odds are Marner doesn't go to the Canes obviously, but that's my call.

I said this after the Panthers won G7 yet got told by a few Canes slob knobbers in this thread that "rest is king". The Canes have not faced any adversity in this playoffs and they're playing the most veteran laden team left. You add in the fact that this Canes core has wilted away late in rounds under Rod and they're already fighting an absurd uphill battle.

 Who cares about the reg season? Even more worthless when talking about the defending champs. Championship hangover anyone.....and a non division/rival opponent on top of that.

Devs were 2-2 vs the Canes this season. 2-1-1 in 2022/23. How'd those playoff series go again? Even better, that Canes team that embarrassed the Devs went on to get SWEPT by the very Florida Panthers you are mocking. Sooooooo
