OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Didn't care who won this series but gutted for Scheifele that he had to be in the penalty box when they scored. Was just hoping that penalty would killed. Hope he doesn't beat himself up for that too much with all he's going through already.
I don’t think the play leading to the penalty was on him. So I don’t think he should best himself up. He had to take the penalty.

If you're going to argue about the Canes being fresh then I can make the argument of them facing next to no adversity in the playoffs. Every other team left has faced adversity and are still standing, the Canes had 2 lollipop matchups and won them. Oilers were down 2-0 and down in Game 3 and won 4 straight to win a series, the Stars with one of the best game 7 comebacks in NHL history, the Leafs/Panthers going through a game 7 tonight before the ECF.

Carolina is top of the charts in all basic categories thus far in the playoffs. CF%, SF%, GF% xGF%.

Blame it on their opponents? Maybe a little, but this is their regular season M.O. as well.

The question with Carolina has always been their goal tending and thus far Anderson is playing great.

And yet the Devils were better than them 5v5 in goal scoring, teams with legit talent will eat them alive. The Capitals are nothing close to what they'll see in the Stars/Oilers/Leafs/Panthers. The Capitals up front were shooting benders on steroids, that's not sustainable in the playoffs

I think getting through two rounds quickly and healthy is more important. I'm not saying Carolina is going to win because of it but I don't think it's hurts them.

It's something we've talked about with the Rangers teams during the Henrik years that they would go 6-7 games for the first few rounds and burn out because of it.

I would have to look at every year for other teams but it definitely helped us getting the first 2 rounds done early.

We played 10 games total in rounds 1 and 2 for every cup year.

03 they played 5 games in rounds 1 and 2

00 they played 4 games in round 1 and 6 in round 2.

95 they played 5 games in rounds 1 and 2.

The years we lost in the finals they played more than 10 games total in rounds 1 and 2...

12 they played 7 games in round 1 and 5 games in round 2 for 12 total games

01 they played 6 games in round 1 and 7 in round 2 for 13 total games

Yet they kicked our ass in shots 5v5, dominated on special teams and won the series in 5.

Pointing to 5v5 goals in the face of all that doesn't seem like a great argument.

Not sure why the Capitals are not as good as, if not better then the Stars, who as I note above look to be getting outplayed in these playoffs but have survived via goal tending and Rantanen posting historic numbers, which I'm guessing is not sustainable.

The Devils were the worst team in the playoffs, both record wise and their play. Considering they got a lot of points early when healthy, then they just collapsed and got conveyor belted into April.
