OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Yes, but it doesn’t really make me feel better because the issues with the team are still the issues with the team. The worry even before the injuries was depth, not our top players not stepping up. So giving them a fight by our top players stepping up doesn’t really change things. Maybe if they had put up a fight with more depth contributions you would feel better, but it is still an Achilles heel.

We didnt have all our top players. Not having Jack is pretty massive. No Luke. Bratt was hobbled with his shoulder.

We are a fundamentally different team if we get to this point with a healthy lineup and that's before fixing the depth.

The team probably beats Carolina with Jack.

They just stacked all their defense on the Hischier line and then took advantage of the Dowling mismatch.

I highly doubt it. We won one game. The series wasn't even close. Just because it was a little more competitive than the fraud caps series doesn't mean we would have won it with Jack. I do think it would have been closer though. Maybe we get two wins.

I don't care if I'm coping hard- this Canes team isn't impressive. A healthy Jack makes our series go to seven games. A bottom six that isn't entirely AHL flotsam means a win in fewer games than that. Florida (I assume that's who they'll face) will grind them into a paste.

The two teams ahead of us aren't going to be much better next year. The only team I can see making a massive leap into challenger status is Columbus, which is as cursed of a franchise as they come. The Rangers will probably contend for a wild card spot but don't have much of a shot at the top three barring massive regression from the Caps (very possible) or Canes (not so much). Isles, Pens, and Flyers are going to take up the rear.

Fitz can't win by doing absolutely nothing, but with some good health and bottom 6 additions, why not us next year to make it out of the East? Aside from all the bullshit we had in terms of roster composition, Keefe's got 'em playing a style that's worthy of playoff hockey.

I don't think we are giving the Canes enough credit. Like I said after they beat us, they are a legit threat to come out of the East. They have 4 solid lines, a great defense and Freddie has been the best goaltender in the playoffs.

Aho had no goals and only 2 points this series and they still easily dispatched Washington (Now I know that probably won't work next round or the finals, but impressive nonetheless).

I give the slight edge to Florida if they advance, but I would not be surprised if they beat them.

I agree with both points. The team has not impressed me, mostly because the system they play does not allow for individuals to shine necessarily, but my god the system they play is as impressive as it is annoying.

This looks like a year where you don't need to be a great team to win...

I mean, I don't agree with that. Florida, Dallas and Edmonton all qualify as great teams in my eyes. I know people waver on Edmonton's goaltending, but they obviously have the top end talent and some strong complimentary pieces to go with it.

Carolina, while not having the top end talent of the other teams, has excellent depth across the board along with as strong of a gameplan as any team and it shows that it works.

The fact that this looks like the likely final 4 isn't too surprising to me. If Toronto finds a way to finally come through in a meaningful game, that'll be something.

I don't know if we would have won, I don't like to play the what if game. But, I certainly think that having even just one of Jack or Luke prevents us from going 0 for the series on the PP. And if that happens, who knows how any of these games shift.

We were right there with them at even strength for the series with a black hole of a bottom 6. I certainly feel like we can compete with them. Special teams was truly our greatest undoing. To go just shy of 70% on the PK for the series with a goose egg on the PP (negative PP actually given we gave up the SHG in Game 2), it's hard to overcome that.

The comments about the Canes reminds me a hell of a lot of the 95 Devils.

Between this and the parallels someone made about the perception of the Canes to those old Devils teams, you guys are really putting my annoyance towards them and their fans to the ultimate test- namely, whether I should even feel that way, or instead shift to thinking that we're kindred spirits. Sigh.

What makes you say that? Lol

The Stars are elite, the Panthers are a juggernaut, the Oilers are amazing, Canes are great as much as we hate them.

Leafs/Jets were also tremendous in the regular season
Florida sure, but I'm not sure they get through two more rounds this year unless Thachuk has new bionic parts attached. A healthy Dallas I suppose though they did finish third in their own division. Edmonton, no they're not a great team - they're a very good team with a legendary player, another great player and good enough role players around them to potentially win with questionable goaltending.

Jets and Leafs are probably not going to win a Cup this year either fwiw, I don't know if I consider the Leafs great anyway, they're in the hall of the very good. The Jets have been a regular season paper tiger a la the Caps this year. I laugh at anyone considering Carolina a great team now when before the playoffs they were considered a decent team with a weak goalie (now an early favorite for the Smythe) and they've had a very kind draw through two rounds.

Between a Canes team that's habitually come up short and a Panthers team with playoff pedigree, I know who I'm going with in that matchup.

Last 4 years the Oilers have lost a nail biter on game 7 of the Cup final, made another WCF, and have at least made the WCF this year. Their worst year they lost in round 2 to the eventual Cup winner. They also have the 2nd best 5v5 xG and 3rd best AS xG. The Oilers are undoubtedly a great team.

Bob's been shaky and Andersen's been great. Carolina might just run through poor goaltending from Bob/Woll and Skinner to a cup. Dallas/Carolina would be a fun finals to watch cause of the Rantanen storyline I guess.

Dallas might be the only team I see beating Carolina at this point because of the Rantanen factor tbh but it would be the most annoying troll of all if they somehow did beat the Stars, it kinda feels like they've been touched by the hockey gods again just like in 2006 when they got to beat a Sabres team with no healthy defense left in Game 7, then a Cinderella Oilers team playing their third-string goalie in the Finals also in Game 7.

Of course if Freddie gets injured again then they're probably boned but he only has to make it through another ten games or so.
