Didn't get to watch the games live last night, but I checked the Edmonton/Vegas highlights on YouTube without any spoilers and was thoroughly entertained. Some insane sequences and vintage Doc Emrick "HOW did that not go IN?!" moments.

Haven't liked Oettinger as a playoff goalie either, but last game (gm4) he stole for Dallas. There was even a softie he let in early on, but still manned up and locked in like a real goalie should.

Now look at the defensemen those positive guys play with a compared to the defensemen the Leaf stars have had to play with. You need defensemen to drive play 5v5 otherwise you are battling to get it out of your zone and then essentially play 3 on 5 when you do get it in the offensive zone.

It’s hard to find a cup winner that didn’t have a guy who could sent a 1st or 2nd team all-star within a few years of the team winning the cup.

And they aren't going to get significantly better next year. Washington probably gets worse.

Even if the Rangers or jackets improve, we should be well positioned to make a run to the ECF next year and then its either getting past the gutless Leafs or a Florida team with a lot of miles on it.

While I generally agree with you, you should know why a majority of fans hate Vegas by now lol, it's just jealousy of a fanbase that was gifted a contender from the start with a ridiculous expansion draft and won a Cup without any real hard times, they still haven't had a losing season in like 7-8 years of existence. Seattle had a fluke good year but even they've been more expansion-y aside from that.

I'm mostly indifferent to all that, but I'd still rather see anyone else currently in the West playoffs win over them at this point.
