OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Thompson has been terrific in the Caps goal in both of these games. I think he’s played as well this year as any goalie in the league. He’s effortless and economical and not making mistakes. Just about got that Gostesbere bullet too. Got his arm on it.

I am amazed at what the refs let Wilson get away with. Such is his reputation and style of play that he habitually gets away with stuff that would be called on anybody else in the league. Charging. Holding. Serendipitous slashing. All kinds of shit after the whistles. Unsportsmanlike conduct and taunting. Tripping. Wrestling with guys. Anybody else would get nailed for about 3 things he does every period. Boy do they cut him slack. There’s one rule book for him and one for everybody else.

The year we traded for Timo was the year to get Wilson out of Washington.

It would've been tough but I probably would've dangled assets for him that year. Imagine him with Bratt/Jack? He's exactly what they want for those guys and he's the tough guy that this management salivates for clearly after dumping assets into "Kurtis MacDermid"

Wilson was never on the market. He signed an 6-year extension, that started in 2024-25, on August 4 2023.

The Caps see him as a core piece and they were never blowing things up to the point he gets moved.

i don't think he was available

Rafalski is second all time in playoff points for a US defenseman? Holy crap.

The shocking thing is we haven't produced any national defensemen who passed that in the last twenty years at this point...I assume #1 is Leetch? Or did he not play enough playoff games aside from '94?

I thought Leech too but only making the playoffs 7 times in his 17 years in NYC hurt his totals.

McDonagh is a bit of a shocker but the Rangers were a more successful team when he was there, Cup aside, before he went to Tampa.

Ah yes Chelios who played like 30 years in the league...I almost forgot he was American because he was already ancient by the time NHL teams started playing in the Olympics

Also made 5 finals as a player (though I don’t think he played much if at in the 08 Wings run). Prime in in the late 80’s early 90’s also boosts the totals.

Leetch had the Conn Smythe year in 94, but never made a deep run otherwise. Only made it to the third round one other time.

Nah that rulebook is the same for the whole canes team. Used to be pit but with Crosby fading they don't have their own rulebook anymore.

Hill was ass against the Wild too.

Vegas just outplayed the Wild by a whole lot.

Vegas should have kept Logan Thompson for the year, even if they let him walk in UFA this summer. He was a minimum wage player. They wound up paying twice as much this year for a huge downgrade in Samsonov.

Hill is a Conn Smythe-less Cam Ward/Bill Ranford. When you ask the 2023 cup winning starting goalie as a trivia question in 20 years it will be a real stumper for a lot of people. Especially non-Vegas fans.

I agree, I was just saying that was the year to get him because he wasn't extended and the Caps were ass. Then he re-signed that summer and he was committed to the Capitals.

My original point wasn't even for the Devils but any team who were looking for that power forward type. The Devils double dipping that 2023 year would've been something but they weren't going to be able to forward Wilson unless they did a bit of roster tinkering anyway.

Are we sure this grind it out defensive style the devils play now is gonna be successful in the playoffs going forward? Sure as heck doesn’t seem like that’s how the teams who are gonna be in the conference finals are playing this year. Not sure if this is a one-off or a new trend.
