That's horrible, we've heard Bryce talk about how bad his concussion issues were before and it really is awful. Really hope he's ok here but there's no way they are gonna let him play game 2 after something like this and won't be surprising if he can't even return this series unless it goes to 6 or 7 and even missing those wouldn't be surprising either.

Yup...he was puking on the bench right after that. They should've taken him out of the game at that point but they left him in and he got the hit to the head from Bennett, which might've given him a 2nd concussion on the night.

Sucks for Stolarz - hopefully they don't rush him back this series.

Bennett’s elbow looks intentional to me but all that forceful. Of course if Stolarz was already concussed it could very well have had a disproportionate impact.

He meant to do it but even if he didn’t, there’s no room for hitting goalies in the head. No discipline is a total joke. It’s not like he’s a DB going to hit a WR and not being able to contort his body mid air to avoid a headshot. Bennett knows exactly where the goalie is and didn’t make an effort to avoid any head contact.

Looked to me like he stuck his elbow out. Someday someone will realize this is a completely viable strategy and advocate for stacking the team with unrepentant sociopaths who will cheap shot the opposition’s best players in a concerted effort to injure them. Lol the Bennett mob is so predictable. I don't even like the guy, but that wasn't egregious. The home Leafs' broadcast didn't even care. The Leaf players right there didn't freak out. The concussion spotters didn't do anything either. Simple penalty at best with a potentially unfortunate result. Any other player and this isn't even a story.

I’m surprised (actually not) the league hasn’t done anything about modifying equipment. Some of these elbow pads with hard plastic caps compared to old gear are absolute weapons. Same with some shoulder pads. It’s like getting hit with a blunt object.

I don’t know. I think it’s pretty necessary for the elbows to be well protected given how much contact they take and how much it can hurt. The hard plastic cap is also probably a minor factor in hits like the one being discussed and most others.

Think they do a lot more good than harm.

I hate these concussions, hate it for Stolarz, a Jersey guy who seemed to be finally getting his footing in the NHL at 31. Agree the puck to the head if not the culprit certainly seemed to play a part and there's no way to avoid pucks to the goalie's head.

I really dont think that contact was THAT bad. Should be a penalty but Stolarz should've been taken out before that.

I don't know what current testing is done, but maybe goalie helmets need to be impact tested further.
