OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

I’m pretty surprised by the Stars being up 2-1 in this series.

Rantanen was a machine tonight. There was one point in this game where Rantanen had 4 shots on goal and no other Stars forward had more than 2 and quite a few of them had 0. Hintz wound up also finishing with 5.

The biggest detriment to them will be Ceci. If Oettinger can get on a role they can do some damage.

Tbh, Ceci has gotten a lot better than his reputation from earlier in his career. Had a rough night tonight but it happens. If they can win this round and get a fresh Robertson/Heskinanen v WPG, they can do something big in the West. Otter also needs to exercise his playoff demons too, great game by him tonight

Some of the mainboard have a weird hard on for McDavid.

Guy tried to single handedly win game 1, but goalie couldn’t stop a beachball or anything with 40 seconds left after McDavid dragged them back in the 3rd.

Crack Oilers staff and management proceed to go into game 2 with the same goalie and it’s yet another 6 goals against game (I know Pickard allowed the last goal) and somehow it’s McDavid’s fault?

it’s probably Kuemper’s fault for not sucking like Skinner.

They probably think he makes too much for them to field a competitive team when the GM didn't want Broberg, Holloway and Foegle back. Just typical stupidity from the main board

The one definite bad goal on Skinner tonight was the one that went through his blocker arm from Kempe that made it 4-2 a little over 2 minutes after the Oilers got it to 3-2 in the 3rd period.

Needed a save there. Oilers could have come back and tied it if the guy stopped that one.

And the one goal Pickard allowed, also to Kempe wasn’t good. So I’m sure Skinner will be back in for game 3 if not just because of that goal.

And he might have even been in anyway.

The play by Arvidsson pissed me off more than Skinner not coming up with that save, Kempe is also probably the most underrated guy in the league on the basis that no one stays up on the East to watch the game but he's a 35-40 goal scorer so can't be too mad Skinner didn't get that. Skinner reminds me a ton of Vitek, he looks like he's ready to cry in his crease whenever a shot is coming and if he makes a save, you still don't feel confident with him in net. It trickles down to the players.

Just some general things I noticed

WASH/MTL: Both teams look far better when their best pairing is out, Chychrun/Carlson and Guhle/Hutson respectively. For the 2nd straight game feel like Washington did a poor job trying to turtle through the 3rd and got outplayed (feel like this has been everyone but Winnipeg). Montembault has played way better than I thought he would, it he keeps it up the series could definitely get interesting

LAK/EDM: Edmonton is complete and utter garbage when McDavid/Draisatl/Bouchard are not on the ice. Danault line may have been an elite shutdown line in the regular season but they just get pinned in every time. On the flip side it allowed the triple K line (hard to give them a proper nickname) to absolutely feast on the rest of the Oilers. Not sure if LAK can sustain a long playoff run running basically 9 forwards and a super sheltered 3rd pairing.

DAL/COL: Can't believe the job Dallas has done containing the MacKinnon line these last 2 games, especially with Ceci/Lybushkin/Petrovic as their RHDs. Otter was great too, carried the team when the Avs were the better team for the vast majority of the 2nd and 3rd periods. Avs middle 6 was way better but Dallas was better at the top and bottom. Still think the Avs might pull this out in 7 tho.

My choice to win it all is Colorado. Second choice would be Vegas. If both of them somehow lose in the first round, I have no idea who my third choice would be. I’ve always like how Dallas is constructed but without Heiskenan I don’t know. Winnipeg I just can’t take seriously to have a real shot but perhaps I’m underestimating them. Washington has a team of destiny thing going on this year with Ovie but I’ve always pictured them flaming out eventually even if it’s in the final. Carolina is a pretender so I don’t see it there. The maple leafs are the maple leafs. Minnesota ain’t winning it all. Maybe the winner of Florida/Tampa series?

Benn and Segin carrying Dallas lol. Back to the Future. The Stars just find a way to win and if Oettinger picks it up may just win this series.
Their forward depth is outstanding so the Robertson loss doesn’t sting as much even though he was back to form in the second half, but I’m so impressed at their D. Outside of Harley, no one moves the needle for me. Otter will have to keep stepping up.

Isn't Heiskanen skating again? He'd obviously move the needle for them.

its amazing the kings could have their cup run then rebuild and have their next cup window open before we finish our rebuild/retool/whatever this is

Didn't think I'd be rooting for Dallas over Colorado or anyone else, for that matter, but for some reason I found myself doing just that. They were so cold going into this series. But they are an experienced and playoff hardened club and I don't even mind Deboer, he's seasoned so I now have good memories of him here. Another Lou guy actually, as Lamoriello brought him in (after his Florida gig) with the label of a good up and coming hockey fundamentals guy. Which time has proved true.

Reminds me of what the Devils were able to do in 11-12 with an aging core after winning a lot. Shame Parise/Kovy left right after as I think they could have had a few more postseason runs in them.

It’s atrocious isn’t it? But still, you have to be “optimistic” or you’re not a real fan!

The Devils started their rebuild around the same time as LAK did and they have no playoff round wins. If you want to bitch about everything, at least be right about it.

Woof, Tampa. They need to get their act together. They are very disappointing so far against a Panthers team that has had issues.

May be the 6th series that goes 2-0

Ya Vasi looks like he forgot to play goalie after a fantastic bounce back regular season. Goaltending should be their greatest advantage

I gotta say, I didn't nail him with a single goal of the 6 he allowed in game 1. There was one goal that was probably questionable. It came from a sharp angle after he was clearly disrupted by a battle in front of him in the crease. But half the goals were on the PP (I think the Panthers went 100% on the PP that game) and there were some tips. I didn't think he was bad, as much as 6 goals on 16 shots is really ugly and I think it was the lowest save percentage/highest shooting percentage in a playoff game since the Penguins scored 5 goals on 12 shots on Rinne in one of the 2017 SCF games.

But I thought he should have had that Schmid goal in this game.

I wouldn't say that at all. LA won the cup in 2014, a year before the rebuild officially started for us. They missed the playoffs in 2015 (one of the few cup winners to miss the next season), went out to the Sharks in round one in 2016 in 6 games, then missed the playoffs in 2017 and fired coach and GM. They made the playoffs in 2018 to go out in the first round to Vegas. Were they swept by Vegas that year? I can't remember.

I wouldn't say their rebuild really started until 2018 or 2019. And they also didn't tear it down the way we did. They still have Doughty and Kopitar from those two cups. They even still had Quick two years ago.
