He’s the biggest JAG cup winning goalie possibly of all time.I really hate how guys like Crawford and Darcy Kuemper get shit for a guy like Adin Hill winning the Cup. He's the ultimate team defense winning a Cup goalie.
Can't believe we also had to deal with people saying the same shit to Marty for all those years.
Cam Ward was JAG. He was really good for a stretch between 2008-2012 and fell off the face of the earth at age 28. He also wasn’t very good prior to 2008 with the exception of that playoff run.
But he did win the Conn Smythe in his cup year.
Niemi was JAG, but had some borderline Vezina candidate seasons (borderline Vezina candidate, not borderline Vezina winning seasons) after that.
Adin Hill was a goalie who got lucky getting acquired by Vegas after a year with the bottom feeding Sharks. He also got even luckier when Logan Thompson was sidelined with one of his usual injuries and he got to run with it.
Now I do think we could see more JAG goalies like him win the cup. If the Avs won with Blackwood this year that would be another example. So Adin Hill may not go down as the biggest nobody cup winner. Him and Khudobin are definitely the biggest rando cup finals starting goalies in quite a while, with him being the lone rando cup winner. Kuemper was borderline rando and had a weak playoffs in his cup winning year, but he was consistently good for a handful of years prior and outside of a poor season last year he’s continued to be solid.
Matt Murray looks like a rando now, but he had the hottest start to his NHL career of any goalie since Patrick Roy or Marty. He got got injured too much and was crippled at a young age. He’s still only 30 years old, despite it feeling like a long time ago since the back to back “Rookie” cup wins.
Binnington is pretty JAG too, but has a chance at more relevance to his career with a gold medal as starter for Canada next year.
