OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Doomer mode creeping in for me. I’m gonna be unbearable all summer and next season I can feel it lmao.

Overall, I still feel it’s not that hard of a fix to get this team back on track. But will it happen? Who knows with Fitz at this point.

It has nothing to do with being a doomer, it's just highlighting the evident problems with the team lol. You don't have to blow up smoke up a team's ass that you follow because of bias, it's pretty easy just calling a spade a spade. Devils went away from their speed and are evidently paying the price. It'll be Fitz's job if he does reverse course which is more painful because he never had to push them that way anyway.

They won in “ways that don’t matter”. While we just lost.
Yes. That doesn’t matter at all now. And they still had a negative 20 goal differential and we were plus 20. Your “MAYBE we could take them if we had Jack and Siegenthaler back” is a bit of a joke. Their expected whatever since Christmas (the oft repeated stat) is just as ass ours with worse special teams.

On the one hand, we did need help in goal and on defense and he went out and got both this last summer. While you can certainly argue about the price for some of those guys (mostly the lengths of Dillon and Pesce's contracts) he did at least address needs.

On the other hand, we obviously needed a center and he seemed blind to it until it was too late. Then there's the "harder to play against" overcorrection, plus the fact that we haven't drafted/developed shit up front for a while.

So...he could either actually see the current issues up front and address them...or he could double down on his philosophy from last summer and bring in the wrong forwards.

At this point I honestly don't know which I'd put money on, which is kind of scary. We already wasted good seasons from Nico and Bratt this year. Doing it again next year because Fitz learns the wrong lessons would be enough to drive even the most optimistic fans into Doomerville.

The thing is his D evaluations were always solid while his forward evaluations have always sucked. So yeah it’s nice he’s fixed the D and did what was needed there but I’m not going to believe he’s going to adequately address the needs up front. I just don’t believe in his vision of the game. When you’re handed Jack/Bratt/Nico though it shouldn’t be hard to build a good forward group so even his dumbass SHOULD be able to fix the mess he made.

The Devils are better 5v5 (not saying much) and better on both special teams units. Being better than Montreal shouldn't be the bar anyway

Both teams suck at 5v5. I take their forward group over ours. I take our D over theirs. Both teams suck. I take the bad team that won down the stretch and is riding high over the bad team that has sucked for months and has nothing going for it. The Devils are lifeless as f***. They know they’re done for. The vibes do matter

PK cracking Mess up is great. I hate Messier the Ranger player but Messier the in studio guy ain't half bad.

When they first started together in-studio, it was a work in progress with their personalities. IMO they've become excellent at working together no matter if it goes over the top or not.

McDonough is a very good pxp caller in general, but he is certainly a guy who needs more reps during the season but doesn’t get them because of his schedule. Bucci just isn’t very good on play by play and tries to be every role. Weekes talks too much (there is something to letting a game breathe) and is generally a cheerleader for everyone.

We got spoiled during NBC’s tenure because Doc, Kenny, and Forslund are top tier. Then they brought in Gord Miller and Chris Cuthebert for the playoffs. Gave everything a big game feeling.
McDonough is fine for college sports and particularly football where the narrative can be more easily carried throughout a game no matter what's actually happening on the field.

If the script coming into the game is yellow hats and nobody is wearing a yellow hat, you might as well send him home. I would normally blame it on ESPN/ABC agenda driven broadcasting where they want to tell you what's important, even if it isn't, but the other PBP guys don't seem to have the same problem. Maybe it actually is due to his being on a more national stage than the other hockey guys but either way, it sucks and I hate it.

Wischusen is so much better than everyone else they have
