Overall, I still feel it’s not that hard of a fix to get this team back on track. But will it happen? Who knows with Fitz at this point.
I need Keefe to show me something too because I’m ready to shit on him as much as I shit on Fitz. He was dealt a less than ideal hand sure but he’s also done a shit job. I called a Leafs 2.0 arc for us when we hired Keefe and it’s coming to fruition but even worse. The Leafs at least always dominated the regular season. 2 guys at the helm with brain damage that have kept moving further and further away from speed and skill for toughness and grit

Oh there is no doubt we were limping pathetically after Christmas and all the way into the playoffs. There was no colder team going in. I don't think it's even a debate that we are the worst team in the playoffs. I mean, we are concerned about losing Glass. That alone is enough of an indication that there isn't a worse team than us in the playoffs

77 pt pace since Christmas at 27th in the league. Next worst playoff team was Florida at 17th and 93 pt pace. Next is Canes at 15th and a 96 pt pace and they walked all over us. There is a GULF between us and everyone else.
I would hedge my bets on NJ beating MTL though, if they hypothetically matched up. Habs have issues with structure and special teams. Besides that, NJ is definitely the weakest since Wild has their stars back. NJ’s roster is booty cheeks.
Caps have been playing with zero structure the last few months and are slow as hell. Perfect opponent for Habs. I am rooting for them

Habs were the only team I felt like we played well at Even strength against all season. (Besides the Rags) Devils scored 13 goals against them total, they were all at even strength (if I remember correctly)
I say yes, NJ would beat them. But again, probably the only team I would call them favorites against.
But this is all hypothetical nonsense. NJ isn’t where they need to be and that’s all that matters.

On the one hand, we did need help in goal and on defense and he went out and got both this last summer. While you can certainly argue about the price for some of those guys (mostly the lengths of Dillon and Pesce's contracts) he did at least address needs.
On the other hand, we obviously needed a center and he seemed blind to it until it was too late. Then there's the "harder to play against" overcorrection, plus the fact that we haven't drafted/developed shit up front for a while.
So...he could either actually see the current issues up front and address them...or he could double down on his philosophy from last summer and bring in the wrong forwards.
At this point I honestly don't know which I'd put money on, which is kind of scary. We already wasted good seasons from Nico and Bratt this year. Doing it again next year because Fitz learns the wrong lessons would be enough to drive even the most optimistic fans into Doomerville.
