Walking away from Zadorov and Lindholm was wise. Not springing for upgrades on defense wasn't. Hronek and Quinn are the only worthwhile defensemen. Without Quinn, they're among the league's very worst teams.

In their defense they’ve dealt with a bunch of injuries on top of some underperforming players.
The biggest losses have been Hronek and Demko.
Quinn’s game took a sizable hit when he lost Hronek, for ~2 months, at the end of November. Tyler Myers is an enormous step down as a partner.
Demko was out until Dec 10th with a knee injury and is probably lucky to be 2-2-2 after a rough start.
Demko left his last game after a collision, though he’s apparently not re-injured. (Just back spasms! No biggie!)
They got a great start out of Lankinen and then
rode him into the ground.
JT Miller was coming in with a LBI and f***ed off for a month, missing 10 games.
Pettersson has been hampered by an unknown injury, then was finally put on the IR and has missed 5 games.

Rick Tocchet's overall head coaching record is hilarious. Someone with his track record doesn't normally get a third crack as head coach.
His only playoffs before last year was the sham playoff berth in the covid pause/bubble playoffs year, where they probably would have just missed if the season played out 82 games.
That's also the only playoff berth to date for Travis Green lol.

Really seems like he's one of those goalies that's buoyed by a strong defense.
His staunchest supporters blame the defense when he's bad (as do most goalie defenders), but they never wanna say that maybe the defense is playing really well when he actually does look good.
For a couple years now.
Overrated goalie. He's basically really overrated because of a 7 game playoff series almost 3 years ago.
That he didn't even win anyway.
And then the year after that he stunk like shit in the playoffs and they got to 3 rounds in spite of him.

The first goal on Oettinger was bad, second might have been also. I need to see the replay. Not sure why DeBoer didn't pull him like he pulled Clemmensen against us for allowing 2 goals on like 5 shots when he coached the Panthers or like he constantly pulled Jones after that with San Jose or better yet or like when he pulled Marty for 2 goals on 5 shots in the opening minutes against Calgary in 2011-2012.
DeBoer is the kind of head coach that will stubbornly ride Oettinger off a cliff if he has to. I'm sure he would have done that with Schneider in 2018 if he coached us instead of going to Kinkaid. We all saw him keep riding Hedberg in 2013.

Stars still win this, NYR didn't deserve a 3-0 lead and they're still caving the Rags offensively territorially. Should be fine.
If they actually blow this, Stan’s commentary is going to be vicious.
I always hope for the Rangers to lose, but Stan’s acerbic takes give me even more reason to want them to fail embarrassingly hard.

First goal went off the defender's stick that was in front of Lafreniere. Second goal was bad, he looked beyond lost in net. Didn't see the third goal tho lol

Third goal was a breakaway that somehow I think was deked and went through him when he was sliding.
I wouldn’t nail him on that, but I think after he’s allowed 2 goals on 5 shots already or whatever it was that you’d like to see him find a way to stop that.
It’s hard to see these until I do the full game highlights. The NHL app only shows a 10 second clip now with no replay. Unless you go to their website and you can watch every goal with an ad.
It’s annoying they stopped showing the 45 second clips on the app, but I guess it’s fine because now you don’t have to watch an ad anymore.

But I KNOW they will be the only team that's lost to the Rangers twice since their spiral started.
