Goodrow rubbed everyone the wrong way, but you can power through that as just business. Forcing the teams f***ing captain to exercise his trade clause and then running him out of town dirty mere months later is a whole different kettle of fish.

It may not prevent them signing players in the future, but it very clearly put the rest of the team in “look out for number 1” mindset

I think they can at least try to rectify that when they get rid of Drury. I mean to try and sell new acquisitions and signings on the atmosphere and playing there.

I've been saying since well before this collapse that if the Rangers don't at least make the cup finals then Drury might be gone after this year. What's going on currently had nothing to do with me forming that belief, but it just might expedite the process.

Just now watching the highlights of that Rangers game.

Did they seriously give up a goal on three straight shifts in the first few minutes of the 2nd period? Maybe it was 3 goals in 4 shifts, but it was definitely 3 goals in roughly 2 minutes and goals 4 and 5 definitely came on back to back shifts.

That's definitely a ''Somebody is getting fired'' or ''Somebody is getting traded'' game.

And I don't think they have anybody else they want to trade.

i think after watching the Devils last year with the McLeod situation, it only takes a very very tiny straw to break the camels back in this league.

its already hard to win as a team that totally fights for each other and has nothing going on negative in a lockerroom.

i think the trouba situation and to a certain extent the Igor and Goodrow situation being so public really took a toll on these players. i’m not sure they know who they’re even fighting for.

I believe if anything broke the camel’s back, it was Drury’s trade memo to every GM specifically naming Krieder and Trouba.

He didn’t talk to either of them before that went out and became public.

He shat on his Captain yet again, while leaving him wearing the “C”, which is pretty humiliating and threw Kreider in this time to make it worse.

Krieder’s been on the team for 13 years and is their most successful homegrown forward in decades.
He’s 10th in all time games played and needs 2 more to be 9th. There’s 4 forwards ahead of him and the latest any of them played was 1980-81.

Not saying you can’t trade him but generally you’re supposed to be more respectful to vets. One worst case scenario for a GM is not talking to a player beforehand about a very public failed trade attempt.

Kreider’s reportedly playing with an injury too. It’s hard to power through something like that when the message from management is 1) I tried to dump your ass 2) I don’t even have to feign respect towards you as a veteran.

Players are complaining about Drury in a way that’s very untypical even for traded players. Seems like he’s an abrasive asshole which is a problem if you work in management.

He might have too big an ego. The thing about management, despite the enormity of the position and pay, is it’s not about you. Management is a facilitator, you’re there to make others excel.

The memo was huge unforced error.

I think the Goodrow one was worse than Trouba, Goodrow was actually good last year in the playoffs and he actually tried to carry them along with Lafreniere in the Panthers series. The term on that contract was god awful but the AAV was fine. Whoever leaked the Trouba stuff should lose their press credentials because that destroyed their offseason on their own because Drury handcuffed himself like an idiot after that. "Reilly Smith" can't be your own only add when you're trying to win a Cup

Goodrow had a couple of OT goals, but otherwise he was not good in the playoffs last year. He had the worst expected goals percentage on the team in the playoffs last year.

The memo didn’t help. But I think their issue was they had a soft schedule to start and then it got harder. Their older players are a year older and have taken a slight step back. And they were never a good 5v5 team to begin with and just rode a top-2 PP which is now mid-league. Maybe the memo was looting gasoline around a house fire, but the house was already on fire.

Doesn't really matter considering who they had in net, that trade off is something the Rags would take 10/10 times. And yeah, probably, last year was so obvious that it was their last chance with this core. The Canes series was evidence of that, they shouldn't have gotten out of that round in the first place, but they ran into the locomotive known as the Panthers.

I think we as fans know how easy shit can sprial and fester when bad vibes get into the locker room.

A losing streak can turn into season over real quick when everyone is doubting themselves like that.

Really hard to see how they pull out of this and they would be foolish to let Drury fire and hire another coach

At first, I was hoping the Rangers would be good enough for us to beat in the playoffs. It’s more fun as a Devils fan when we’re both competitive. But now that things are well and truly off the rails for them, I want to see how bad it gets. It’s like a flaming train wreck at MSG.
I keep getting a vibe they’re gonna announce come February that they’re heading into another retool like they did in 2018. If I’m not mistaken they were in a playoff spot for much of the early part of that year. I think we were neck and neck in the standings when we beat them in the shootout right before Christmas of 2017? Or maybe I’m wrong on that?

Either way I do remember them starting out fine that season before crashing.

I don’t think they’ll go that route this time. Not with Shesterkin in his prime.

My guess is there will be a GM change and new regime who will try to repair this and they may or may not be fine again next year. I’m still not convinced they’re definitely done this season and will miss the playoffs. There’s a lot mediocre at the bottom and bubble and I trust them and Shesterkin more than the Flyers and Islanders. But they may be done for this year.

I still look for them to bring in Mike Sullivan. Probably this offseason.

I would have some pity for the Rangers fans, but I don’t. They keep craping on Jack like he’s some 4th liner. I get there pissed that Kakko can’t carry Jack’s jockstrap. But they should get on Kakko not Jack.

Said it before, I'll say it again: before this year, the Rags were a good team masquerading as a great one. You can't play that weak 5-on-5 and just keep hoping your goalie and power play will bail you out every single time, season after season...not to mention how often they got lucky with injuries to opposing teams in playoff matchups in recent years. All it takes is one of those things going wrong for the whole house of cards to come tumbling down. So many people treating them as elite the last few years are suddenly talking like they saw this coming all along, but hey, at least they're finally acknowledging what's going on.

Interesting reading the conversation here about Washington, though; I didn't realize how insane their shooting percentage was, that gives me some hope about their points percentage coming down to earth a bit. Still, there's no denying how strong they are overall, hard not to give them credit for being good at developing talent, having strong coaching, and knowing how to build a roster, because they had zero business being a playoff team last year, and now look like a real threat.

And yeah, add me to the "Tampa Bay might be scariest in the Atlantic" pile.

Caps really are just the best team in the league and are never losing again…
I honestly wonder what happens first though.

The Capitals lose a game or the Sabres win a game. Their last regulation loss was to us 3 weeks ago. They've only lost to the Sharks in OT since.

Coincidentally Buffalo's most recent victory came on the same night we beat the Capitals. 3 weeks ago tonight.
