I saw he was doing better in early check of the season, but didn't realize he was getting that much ice time and scenario situations.

Calgary has two high end defensemen and then the drop off is pretty stark.

Tyson Barrie is their 7th defenseman but didn’t produce enough to stick on the 3rd pair.

It’s annoying that we gave up a better, and younger, defenseman than Vegas did to get Hanifin (Miromanov), but Fitz loves being generous to Calgary.

Kevin Bahl and PP goal doesn't compute, but very eye opening..

What has he become??

They were up 1-0 late, so I assume he was just out there to nurse the lead but he got open and wired a puck past Elvis.

He probably thought Bahl wouldn't rebound and the Devils did give him a ton of chances in the top 4/PK last year. Like I said with Shara, sometimes trades are needed for guys to grow. He's playing top pair nightly on a team with lower expectations than us. Sometimes players thrive in that, not gonna be salty towards Fitz if a player becomes better elsewhere in a situation like that.

Jets are on the struggle bus. 3-7 in their last 10 and on a 4 game losing streak. Watching them lately they’re a shell compared to their white hot start. Ehlers is out which really hurts their 2nd line. Samberg is hurt as well which is the bigger loss. He was doing a wonderful job anchoring the 2nd pair with Pionk

Morrissey-DeMelo
Fleury-Pionk
Stanley-Heinola

That’s what the Jets are rolling out on D right now. Those 2nd and 3rd pairs can be eaten alive especially by good teams. Fleury shouldn’t be more than a #7. Same goes with Stanley. Heinola is just getting a chance now. Cheveldayoff really needs to improve that defence if they want to do any damage come spring.

I don’t think Yegor’s really grown. He’s basically the same guy he’s always been. Fantastic with talent. Useless without it

True, there was just a lot of hand wringing over him and his 30 goal year last year. It was never gonna happen here, so they moved on from him. He was an ok piece, same with Bahl. They upgraded him with Dillon and banked on Siegs to get back to his form which is exactly what happened.

Bahl was objectively a better return than Miromanov.

Signed 2 year/1.25m w/ Calgary after trade, then is a UFA in 2026

They got Vegas’ 2026 1st vs our 2025 1st.

The one extra was Vegas also gave up a conditional 3rd, it turns into a 2nd if they win a playoff round.

Even during the 15-1 start they weren't exactly playing good hockey.

Hellebuyck was saving a goal above expected a game. 13 in 13 to start. STILL a goal above expected a game with 7 in 7 since.

They had the 22nd best xGF% and were at 49% that stretch. Since then they're 28th at 46%. They're 22nd in xGA/60 on the season.

Their PP was shooting out of their mind and had double the xG. They had 19 PP goals in 16 games on only ~9.5 xGF. Since then the pucks aren't going in nearly as much with their goal rate getting cut to a third of what it was. They also aren't even generating as much. They dropped from 16 GF/60 and 8 xGF/60 down to 5.3 GF/60 and 6 xGF/60. They were obviously 1st in GF/60 and were 17th in xGF/60. Since they're 24th and 27th.

I think I said it earlier in the year but it's looking even more true. The Jets are literally just what the Rangers were

That's the Lindy Ruff I know and hate, sorry @sabremike
Virtually the entire coaching staff is the same as last year (Lindy wasn't allowed to bring in any of his own guys) and the roster is a bunch of fragile little children so obviously this is all Lindy's fault.

Also how's that assistant everyone said carried Ruff doing these days in Nashville?

Is Lindy THE problem in Buffalo? No. Is Lindy A problem in Buffalo? Yeah probably.

Brunette's probably one of the many coaches that can make things work when he has a roster that works for him and can't when he doesn't. He needs a team that can skate and instead Barry saddled him with a nursing home roster.

In a weird coincidence, I posted hot hot pics on the Jets swoon in the Around the NHL thread.

I’m a big fan, but if Elhers struggles with injury again this season that might affect his next deal.

Would love Dougie out and Dougie's money going to Ehlers but the injury concerns are a bit annoying.

Please reread the first part of my post: If you hire a new coach but keep all the assistants you essentially didn't hire a new coach. The guy to blame is Kevyn for his complete inability to assemble a roster.

Eh, that was more at his system. I know the Sabres have other issues but his running around and headless in the defensive zone leads to stuff like that.

Didn't it come out that Hanifin only would re-sign in Tampa Bay, Florida or Vegas? That obviously would bring down the return tremendously.

Looking at Buffalo's stats, they are one of the worst teams 5 on 5 in terms of xGF%. They are middle of the road in xGA%.

I am not defending Lindy, but this just looks like a bad team?

The issue with Buffalo and most of the other teams in a perpetual rebuild is that they don't have an identity to build around. That's the first step any team needs to take, and then they need to make moves to reinforce that. Remember, Shero mentioned "run-and-gun" when he took over from Lou, and Fitz followed that up by stating he wanted to build around Hischier and Jack Hughes. Obviously, Shero had flaws in his roster building, but Fitz has been doing a much better job, and he's been able to tinker around the edges when he needed to (see this season by wanting better goaltending and more skilled toughness).

Can anyone here tell me what the Sabres are supposed to be? The Ducks? The Sens? What is the "Yzerplan" besides just a buzzword? For God's sake, the Sharks have been more impressive than all of those teams. They've bought in to something over there and it shows. None of those other teams are anything other than a collection of mostly young talent.
I like the way Fitz is building the team . Big mobile D . Each pair has a shut down type and a more offence type paired ( minus Seigs and Kovy but Casey and Nemec will fill that role ) .
I think we just need one or two more pieces in the bottom 6 like discount / young version if Noesen. Someone fast and hard to play against with size . I think Fitz has identified this and is trying to do that . Which I really like and think is the right direction to go . Big yet mobile D that can skate , skilled fast forwards supplemented by players that can play a heavy game and get to the centre of the ice/ good along the boards / hard to play against , yet can skate well . So far I think we have a good mix of that but could use one or two more good bottom 6 guys . Namely at C . Too bad M McLeod was not an option …. He would be almost ideal
