OOT Scoreboard 2024 25 Season Part II

Damn man some of the takes on here woof lol. You guys bash the nhl for promoting and marketing and some don’t care if he scored into an empty net others want a 5 min ceremony and think it’s weird isle fans cheering hahahaha only here

I don't care what the NHL does promotion wise because it's never gonna be bigger than it already is. The sport will always be an after thought for the vast majority of the country and world. Doesn't matter what they do.

Except the NHL didn’t do shit when Marty broke the record and anything that happens with a win would naturally have been after the game, not during it anyway

It's not surprising they didn't do anything. They didn't even put the last game on a channel where most people could watch lol

We literally don't and there's nothing wrong with not wanting this to happen to your team.

Imagine Henrik broke the all time wins record in our building and we had to endure this? f*** outta here.
I don't need to imagine something that has basically 0% chance of happening.

If one of our rivals did something like this on our home turf, at the end it's a sport and there's still some level of respect in all the hate. It's a sport, not war.

I know it’s not for everyone, but this is a wild feat so I’m ok with the league reveling in it.

The goal and celebration themselves were perfect. If I were Ovie, I’d hit the showers and tell them to meet him at the pub.

Seeing it live on TV with the whole family, goosebumps.

What a moment for the league and everyone.

Ok so a couple things here...

1. Where did I ever say I wanted an empty net goal?

2. I literally said two days ago why I made the initial post.

3. Did you really hold onto something I wrote like 3 days ago to try and get some like "haha what an idiot you are" moment?

I CLEARLY explain what I meant. Good for you though, hope this makes you feel better.
First time I read the thread since. You said you don’t see why people would care if it’s an Eng. to me that means you are fine with an Eng

I've never seen something like that done during the game.

I've seen extended celebrations, but not a whole carpet rolled out and presentation like that.

That part probably should have come after the game, but I don't have a particularly strong opinion against them doing it during the game. So I'm fine with it.

I do wonder if the guys on the Islanders aren't too happy about having to stop a meaningful game like that right in the middle. But I think they're cooked anyway.

This might not happen ever again.

They did the same to Gretzky when he broke it.

I hope nobody ever breaks Marty's record, I never want to see it happen. I'm a Devils fan first, they rest of the league can f*** off.

Well I’m in the minority that think it will be broken
I wouldn't completely rule it out, but I'm not sure if it will happen in our lifetimes if it does.

The shootout era actually gave more runway for it to happen, but goalies aren't playing as many games anymore.

Vasilevskiy is probably the closest to it, not including the guys like Fleury and Quick who are at or near 40 years old.

I was actually thinking about that and if they stopped the game. I couldn't remember.

I think I watched that game live. There was no Devils game that night (I had to look that up to confirm) so I think I did watch that on ESPN. I think ESPN was picking up most of those games during his chase, and it wasn't baseball season yet, so they didn't have to show Wednesday night baseball or any of that.

Vasilevskiy is at 329 so he's 362 away and will be 31 in July. Hard to imagine since you would think Tampa is going to have a few down years coming up too.

To be fair, at least with the goalie wins record you don’t have to stop anything in the middle since wins aren’t official until after the game. They were always going to have the ceremony on the spot, especially considering how many people like me were only watching for the record and celebration

Yeah, I can’t see Marty’s record ever getting touched. Not in our lifetimes anyway.

It would take a freak to come along and have his durability, longevity and for the stigma on goalie tandems to go away. But I think teams see the need for their goalies to get rest over a long season that it will be impossible for anyone to play 70 games a year across multiple seasons the way Marty did.

Pretty incredible that Gretzky only scored 92 more goals after breaking the Gordie Howe record, despite playing approximately 370 more games after that. His goal scoring dropped off a lot in his 30s and especially his mid 30s. Though that was the beginning of the dead puck era.

Pretty remarkable how well Ovechkin and Crosby have aged, and that they're still scoring at the rates they are,

Crazy. And he would've done it earlier without lockouts and anything close to something like this era during the '10s.

I'd be annoyed for most other fanbases but f*** the Isles. Die already.

Gretzky breaking the record was pre Bettman lol, it was that long ago
