OOT Scoreboard 2024 25 Season Part II

This has been a wild game.

I haven't watched a whole lot of non-Devils hockey this year, at least not full games.

Over/under on Kochetkov giving up yet another for the Islanders to tie again?

5 minutes?

The Isles are cooked. Especially cooked in regards to 3rd place, but I don't see them catching the wild card either. 3 points out with a lot of teams to jump and no games in hand on anyone except the Rags
Honestly, I think I may have gotten caught up in the hype about 10 days ago, before this (4 game?) losing streak, where people were saying they were the team we have to worry about and not the Rangers or Columbus.

I'm not sure why there was ever any confidence in them having a run, other than them having a 7 game winning streak almost 2 months ago.

Other than them having a 3 game winning streak earlier in the month before this losing streak started.

This losing streak is now up 5 games, not 4 games. First two were in OT but the last 3 have all been in regulation.

And Sorokin looks like he's ready to be shut down for the season. He looks exhausted and overplayed. And Roy has thrown him under the bus to the media much like he did to Varlamov in Colorado at the end. Which is why I'm not sure why Varlamov got ''Chills'' when he heard Roy was taking over again. At least not in a good way.

And speaking of Varlamov, I'm guessing there's a pretty good chance he's already entered LTIRement and will never play again?

I hope the standings stay as they are. I think Ottawa and Toronto play a rough series. Similarly, let the Florida teams beat up on each other. Probably a given that Washington will dunk on the Canadiens.

I feel like the Canes are beatable, which is all I'd need to be more than satisfied this year given our issues.

After the sweep of Minnesota and virtually a week off attention turns to the Out of Town Scoreboard. Here is the latest magic number watch for the Devils for clinching over the remaining teams sitting on the outside looking in. Note the Devils have already clinched the RW tiebreaker over all the teams except the Rangers. That means the Devils clinch with a tie vs those teams vs needing an additional point vs the Rangers. That is reflected in the magic numbers below.

Magic Number Watch (# of points need to gain/lose to clinch):
Columbus -- 8 points
NY Rangers -- 7 points
Detroit* -- 5 points
NY Islanders -- 5 points
Pittsburgh -- Clinched (Max points is 85)

*- Detroit would need another metro team to also pass the Devils in order to jump over the Devils. The Red Wings are also the position where we would be eliminated from being able to obtain the 1st overall pick.

The earliest possible clinch date is Monday, April 7.

Tonight's Games of Interest:
Predators @ Blue Jackets
Lightning @ Islanders
Red Wings @ Blues
Wild @ NY Rangers (tomorrow night)

Blue Jackets probably beat the Predators tonight. I can't remember too many times this year where I saw a team was playing Nashville and thought ''Man, the Preds probably win that'' other than like the Sharks or something. They did beat the Rangers when Stan famously blasted the Rangers for losing to a ''Humpty Team'' back in November or December.

Maybe the Islanders finally snap out of it and win one tonight. I don't think they're a threat anymore.

Red Wings also not a playoff threat at this point.

I honestly think the playoff race is down to just the Habs, Rangers and Blue Jackets right now. And the Jackets schedule get a lot rougher after they play the humpty Preds tonight.

The Rangers have constantly pulled a ''Just when we thought we were in, they pull us back out!'' since they started turning it around.

Maybe the playoff teams and even seedings stay exactly the same in the East as they are today. The order of the top-3 in the Atlantic is far from decided though. I gotta say, I'm not high on the Habs, but maybe it's them and everybody else is out.

They play the Panthers again today, almost definitely with Vitek, unless Bob plays tonight and tomorrow against the Leafs (they aren't starting Vitek against the Leafs and Bob tonight, if I had to guess) and the Panthers have exactly 0 regulation wins in I think the last 23 days? And only 3 wins at all since then.

Preds beating the Jackets would not be surprise me since the advantage in goal that Nashville has and they've had some sneaky wins lately.

TB should beat the Isles

Blues on a torrid pace so I expect them to continue v Detroit.

Wild v NYR screams 3 point game but maybe the Wild are super pissed with how the B2B went with the Devils that they take out on the Rags.

I'm really feeling a MAF sentimental last game at MSG start for the Wild.

He hasn't played that much this year, Hynes has (wisely) used him the way you would expect a 40 year old goalie to be used, but his underlying numbers are very poor this year. He's playing like a 40 year old in the final years of his career.

His numbers on evolving hockey are really bad. Not too much better on moneypuck, but quite a bit worse on evolving hockey. Save percentage is a little above league average, but he's breaking considerably below even in regards to what is expected.

If the playoffs started today I think I would pick the Lightning over the Panthers.

Assuming that was the matchup.
