i don't watch all their games, but i caught the rangers game last night. man, what the hell happened to fox? is he injured or what? looked slow as hell and struggled to just enter the zone.

He's overrated. I've said it a couple of times on the main board. I keep waiting for someone to prove me wrong, but nobody has made a compelling argument.

But they’re shooting way above league average. I’m pretty sure they’re like 25th or so in expected goals.

They may not be worst team in the league bad, but I don’t think they’re particularly good.

Their PDO isn’t high, but mostly because their team save percentage is so poor.

But they’re shooting 11.5% and league average is 10.5%. And that’s not including tonight’s results where they shot 18%+.

Also weak possession numbers and approximately a -200 shot on goal differential.
I think a series between them and the Caps where both see some shooting% regression back to the norm would end be pretty funny

Feels like he is way more partner dependent then any of the other top dmen in the league. Constantly see Rags fans saying he's held back by Lindgren or Vaak or whoever. Even if that is somewhat true I rarely see that excuse made for any other top dmen. Hedman and McAvoy have spent a ton of time the past few years with 3rd pairing level dmen.

It's a weird argument because a lot of the league's top dmen obviously benefit from having a complimentary top pairing level partner. Makar, Quinn, Slavin. At the same time tons of the league's top young guys regularly play with 2nd or bottom pairing level dmen and still manage to establish themselves as top guys McAvoy, Sanderson, Werenski, Heiskanen. Honestly it's impressive as hell that Hedman is still playing at elite levels with his most common partners over the last few years being Darren Raddysh and Nick Perbix

13 shots on goal? I didn’t even realize they were that bad when I checked the score last night.

I would laugh, but our first pretty, no offense game of the year, well prior to December 28th was the 18 shot shutout game to Vladar.

We had two Jack breakaways and probably 0 real scoring chances other than that. Score was 0-0 coming out of the final TV timeout with 5 and change or maybe under 5 left, before Calgary scored on back to back shifts.

They had something like 2 total shots from forwards 45 mins into the game. Crazy stuff

The Rags had MAYBE 2 minutes the entire game where they looked like they were putting forth any effort. Listless would be an understatement.

Not just defense partner, I think he's also dependent on his forwards because he lacks the physical gifts of the other elite guys. Needs the time and space to play his cerebral style and when he doesn't get it he looks way more pedestrian.

I still think he's an excellent defenseman, but he's not put the team on his back like the other guys can.

Aghh it was 3-2 last time I checked.
@ Bleedred , you got to see the Sens 3rd goal on Montenblow …. It was a muffin clapper by none other than the perennial goal scorer - Hamonic ….
It was a unscreened / clear view shot from the point that Montenblow just “ missed “ on . I dint know how he didn’t stop it … it was baaaaaad
I have to say, I don't watch many non-Devils games this year. I can't get into them. Of course I watch highlights of all of them for my goalie project, but I don't watch or keep up in real time. Especially if it's a game that has implications on us. Like all the bubble teams. Too much anxiety. I did happen to see the score when it was 1-0 Canadiens and 1-0 Rangers and didn't check again until like 10:18 PM when everything was over.

2 of the 3 goals on Montembeault were bad and that probably should have been the game winner and it's really f***in annoying that it wasn't. I saw the score, but I had no idea this game was 3-2 Sens with under 10 minutes left in regulation, and it went from 3-2 Sens to 6-3 Habs with two quick goals on Ullmark to tie and then take the lead, then two empty net goals. So f***in frustrating.

I will say, the Canadiens goaltending is not THAT bad like I said last night. It's heavily weighed down by Primeau's stats, who hasn't played since I don't think either December or early January. He was waived and Dobes has been up ever since and has played well.

Montembeault has a save percentage at around league average, but his numbers analytically are well above average. About + 0.4 GSAx per 60 on moneypuck for Montembeault. Their goalie numbers are being skewed and below league average solely due to Primeau and his .836%, who they got rid of and dumped in the minors months ago. Primeau has been bad for years.

Anyway, Montembeault having a +0.4 GSAx per 60 despite only a save percentage of .901% (which is the league average) is no doubt another indictment on just how bad Montreal are defensively. They have a lot of talent up front and are very speedy, but terrible D. The fact Jack Eye still has a regular spot is pretty damning on just how bad things are for them on the back end. Even though he plays only #6 minutes.

Travis Hamonic has played for Ottawa for several years now and I've been going ''Wait, Hamonic is still in the NHL?'' for as long as he's been there. He's been pretty bad for years now and has to be about 35 or damn near close to it. I totally cannot understand what he's still doing as an NHL regular.

I remember him getting his face busted open with I think a puck shot at him when he was a rookie or possibly second year back when he was with the Islanders.

I remember him begging to be traded from the Islanders to Alberta/Western Canada for family reasons. I think he later on rescinded his trade request, but they eventually sent him to Calgary anyway. I'm pretty sure he's been pretty not good ever since then.

I think that Rangers game last night was their version of the famous Dano game.

Devils with a zero effort game in Dallas in 2019 during an attempted retool. They tore it down after this.
I had to look this up just to confirm, but this turned out to be Taylor's Hall's final game as a Devil. He was still on the team for another several days/games, but the game right after this they ''Scratched him for precautionary reasons'' and that's how it stayed until he was traded.

I think this was about a week after Hynes was fired. I think we got outshot like 40-20 in that game. We may have even had under 20 shots.

And this was also the Stars first game with Rick Bowness as head coach. Jim Montgomery was fired on the morning of this game.

The Rangers would make one helluva case study with just how inconsistent they've been all year - both with good and horrible streaks, you just never know what kind of effort you're going to get from game to game.

Stan jumped the shark on Twitter calling for Drury to pull a Lou (can the coach and take over behind the bench)...Stan, Drury IS the problem lol - or at least his lack of people management is a root cause of why their big-name players really don't give a shit often enough.

I remember watching game this at a friends house and we were both like 'wtf did we just watch, what a mess.' Then I go on Twitter and see that in the postgame interview, when asked about the trade rumors Hall responded something along the lines of 'you should talk to my agent' and I knew right then that he was done.

At least Shero didn't sign Hall to a dumb contract trying to save his job, or maybe by then the owners wouldn't let him.
The contract number we were speculating here for Hall to re-up was between $10-$11 million and likely for the max 8 years.

In that case Hall's extension would have only been halfway over coming into this year.

It will be interesting to see if Hall is still playing in 27-28 when that hypothetical contract would have been in its final season.

The reporting was that Shero pitched the idea of a five year deal to Hall's agent and Hall wanted an 8 year deal and they never went past the initial discussions to talking money. One of the smarter things Shero did in retrospect. I'm tired of NJ having to overpay guys to play. If you want out, leave. I'm cheering for whoever is in a NJ uniform.
