OOT Scoreboard 2024 25 Season Part II

How many teams with 30 regulation losses after 69 games made the playoffs in the last 20-something years? I don’t have time to look right this second. But if no one answers in the meantime I’ll have to look that up.

Maybe one of those 2010 playoff teams like Montreal or Philly that got in with 87 and 88 points.

The Rags are done, they just lost to a team that got creamed the night before 6-2, had Shesterkin v a backup and LOST 2-1. They also have no games in hand or equal games v Habs/Isles/CBJ or Red Wings. The Wings are probably toast too.
Also only have a one game vs. the Islanders remaining as far as head to head vs the other bubble teams.

Meanwhile the Islanders have 1 head to head vs Montreal remaining (Thursday), 1 vs the Rangers, and 2 vs. Columbus. However the Islanders have the 2nd hardest schedule remaining (though who knows how motivated the Caps will be in April).

Columbus in addition to those Islander games have 3 vs Ottawa. Montreal has 1 each vs Ottawa and the Islanders. Red Wings have 1 vs Ottawa and 1 vs Montreal.

The Islanders also do this every year, I'm pretty last year when Kakkonen shut them out at UBS for us that we were ahead of them and they STILL made the playoffs are the Red Wings had their absurd free fall.

Looked it up, the Devils were a point behind them and Isles had a game in hand. Still, this team does this shit every year in regards to the Islanders. And their core has never had an issue in year dating back to the past few years when Trotz was coach as well.

The Atlantic wild card teams don't matter. Its all about the Metro teams.

We have an 8 point cushion on third. If we can't hold that at this point we don't deserve the playoffs

I think we'll be fine. Our goaltending this year gives a chance to steal games + wins. Just need a decent amount of finishing. Once we get to the playoffs, I expect this team to play more freely. It sucks that we don't have 3 great players possibly for the playoffs since the East is so winnable this year but it'll allow other guys to break out come April.

Yeah im not at all worried about making it at this point. Once we handled business the past week we put ourselves in a very strong position.

Plus there is just nothing inspiring about the teams behind us that should be concerning us.

The Habs and Wings can win out for all I care

I do wish we got our big guns back because I agree the East feels open and getting that extra center has really helped our team

We have an 8 point cushion on third above a Rags team that doesnt have it. 10 points on a Jackets team we demoralized personally and 10 points on an Isles team. If we can't hold that at this point we don't deserve the playoffs
It's our largest lead on 4th in the division since mid-January. Now we have been caught by Ottawa, but that doesn't matter.

Holy shit, looking back at last year, I didn't realize how bad Philly choked a playoff spot. Their situation was pretty similar to ours injury wise + Hart getting kicked off mid year within reason and they completely folded down the stretch
They just couldn't get a save down the stretch last year. The Hart arrest killed them because they had to go with Ersson who couldn't handle the workload.

Habs are 20-11-4 in their last 35 gms

They aren’t bad
But they’re shooting way above league average. I’m pretty sure they’re like 25th or so in expected goals.

They may not be worst team in the league bad, but I don’t think they’re particularly good.

Their PDO isn’t high, but mostly because their team save percentage is so poor.

But they’re shooting 11.5% and league average is 10.5%. And that’s not including tonight’s results where they shot 18%+.

Also weak possession numbers and approximately a -200 shot on goal differential.

Nothing special but they are definitely a hard working young bunch. We’ve seen it in our games against them. A 35 game stretch of .640pts% hockey is damn good. So if they get in they deserve it

This just means Montreal is going to be the circus team next year with inflated expectations.

Okay, so the 09-10 Canadiens finished with 88 points and made the playoffs. They had 74 points and 29 regulation losses after 69 games.

And the 09-10 Flyers who finished with 87 points and made the playoffs (and made the cup finals and only got in on the final day of the regular season by beating the Rangers in a shootout) had 77 points and 28 regulation losses after 69 games. Looks like they went 5-7-1 the rest of the way.

The Hamburglar Sens I had to look up. I knew they battled back from the bottom to get in, but even they had 79 points by game 69 of that season.

The Rangers having 30 regulation losses and only 72 points after 69 games seem a real long shot to make the playoffs at this point.

Rangers, Blue Jackets, Islanders and Detroit are all on pace to finish with 86 points. I think that would be 85 for Detroit.

Montreal currently in wild card 2 on pace to finish with 89 points. 90 probably gets you in, but it’s possible that less than 90 will do in the East this year. I’d say 92-93 to be safe, but all of those teams on pace for 86 points would have to finish with 90 points for 90 not to be enough.

Moneypuck has been bullish on the Rangers for a while now, giving them higher odds than everyone behind or near them. Even after tonight they have them at slightly better odds than Montreal.

I don’t know if it’s because the Rangers are maybe the best of that bunch, if not just marginally or possibly the Igor factor.

I noticed them favoring the Raqs as well. They actually have them at double the percentage to win the cup then us 2.9 to 1.5.

Difference is they didn't have other big-name top line players still playing or veteran goalies around to pick up the slack. Their team was basically us in 2018 without Taylor Hall.

i don't watch all their games, but i caught the rangers game last night. man, what the hell happened to fox? is he injured or what? looked slow as hell and struggled to just enter the zone.
