If he keeps up the pace he's at this season and doesn't miss any games from here on out, he could potentially break the record in the final week of this season.

All he needs is 15 more in 26 games, including what's left of today's game.

Caps having a historic regular season, only to be eliminated by us in the 2nd round after we smash Carolina in 5. Sad!

Wrong Kool Aid, my friend.

It will be the Rags or CBJ who smash Rawly in round 1. Outside chance it's NYb or Philthy. NJD will miss the playoffs.

Book it,

So just basically a goal every other game for the remainder of the season.

0.52 over the final 25 games to be exact. I think he was at like 0.65 goals per game this season coming into this game. He's now 0.70 goals per game on the season after today.

The Caps are unstoppable. They shot 20% today. Holy f*** lol.
My gosh the Caps have scored 15 goals in the last 24 hours, counting these first two games out of the blocks.

Extremely impressive, one has to say. We could use a few of those and they would have plenty to spare. And their opposition today - Edmonton - wasn’t 2d rate.

I haven't watched a Caps game all season other than the ones against us. All I've heard for the last 5 years is that they're old and toast, they're gonna drop off, they'll be bottom feeders yada yada.

Did they and if so how were they able to retool so quick? Can someone explain what the hell is going on with them.

They’ve made a bunch of good moves to get younger (like Strome), had the old and slow players like Backstrom and Oshie on LTIR retire and they have had some picks and prospects work out. They also have a 104 PDO and lead the league in shooting percentage.

My take is that they shed off the vets who dropped off the most like Backstrom and Oshie, and then pretty much all the guys they have brought in have worked out. They quietly put together a pretty dynamic d group and they have a few young forwards that are good. A guy like McMichael is a legit good young player. They also have other younger guys like Protas who have broken out this year, though I'm not sure if that’s legit or he’s just having a great outlier season.

For years we've heard the Pens and Caps are done, looks like the Pens are. Is this a one off or do you think it's sustainable for the Caps?

Hard to say I think. They are on pace for like 120+ points and have the best shooting percentage in the league. They aren’t a fluke but they also aren’t THAT good. How that translates beyond this season isn’t all that clear to me…I’m not sure that all of their young guys are as good as they look this year long term plus then you have to factor in the eventual decline of the remaining vets like Ovie and Carlson.
