OOT Scoreboard 2024-25 season - part II

Vintage Blackwood on that 3d Rangers goal just now against Colorado. Makes an initial save, kneels there oblivious to the slightest idea that the puck is sitting free behind him 1 foot from the goal line. You count: “One thousand one . . . One thousand two . . .” There the puck sits while Blackwood squeezes the pads and stares towards the blue line. Or maybe he’s meditating. Or maybe hatching an egg. Until a Ranger goes behind him and taps it in.

Some things never change. I had really forgotten what it looked like but oh what a blast from the past. If we saw it once, we saw it twenty times. His lack of awareness and anticipation of the play around him and where the puck is was always truly remarkable.

Different state, different name, same shit hockey club.

They were a “Dark horse hot take” pick for a playoff spot by a couple people. I’ll just say some YouTubers I follow.

I didn’t think it was a really bad goal or anything. I nailed him with a stoppable goal on it. That was the only one I gave him in that game.

It was a pretty point blank shot from a prime scoring area and he didn’t really have much time to get set on it. So I didn’t think it was that bad. But I know what you mean.

He’s having a really good year. Just not sure it’s gonna be the norm for him.

I always forget his last season was in Florida.
It was actually in Sweden though!:sarcasm:

I sometimes forget he was even in Toronto at the end. I always associate those teams with Curtis Joseph, but he signed in Detroit to replace a retiring Hasek (who decided to come out of retirement just a year later) and they signed Belfour after a really poor season in Dallas, where he looked done at 37 years old and Marty Turco dethroned him.

But he experienced a huge resurgence in Toronto, at least the first two years before the lockout. I was actually surprised he didn't get more Vezina votes. One of those two years I remember thinking he should have been a very close second to Marty for the Vezina, but he came in third behind Marty Turco of all people. I think Marty Turco led the league in save percentage that year, but also only played 50-something games, where I think Belfour played closer to 65.

That must have been 02-03 because 03-04 was the monster year from Luongo where he still had a lopsidedly losing record because of how bad Florida was.

Anyway, I remember Belfour increasing his pad size before the 02-03 season. I remember that actually being a thing that year, only I don't remember if he publicly discussed it or didn't really acknowledge it, much like Jonathan Quick did not show his hand at completely overhauling and reinventing his game prior to last season.
