That's why

I said I get it. That amount of points is insane. I'm just a fan of the winning team having the playoff MVP. Florida doesn't win without Bobrovsky. I have no actual issue with McDavid winning.

TBF, I think the contribution % of Bob and McDavid vs rest of the team is much larger with McDavid. Without McDavid, that team is barely a playoff team.

Just like the ducks in 2003 (without Giguere)

Draisaitl really shit the bed this series huh. Oilers going to have to make a hard decision since he’s a UFA after next season.

He ain't going anywhere, unless he himself decides to move on.

McDavid is the right pick for the CS. Half of it is having a strong case, other half is Florida's top contenders all losing there's in the final.

Bob had an .899 SV% in the final and a .906 SV% for the overall playoffs. Games 4-6 absolutely killed his chances.
Tkachuk was over PPG going into the final and had 3 points in 7 games. Think most would agree he played at a higher level in the playoffs last year.
Barkov was their other PPG guy going into the final. Was shutting down and dominating every opposing top line and McDavid turned the tables on him in the final.

McDavid was head and shoulder above anyone on Florida. IMO very different case from 2003, when both Marty and Giguere both put up elite postseasons (Giguere was better .945 to .934) but Marty had the better finals performance (.925 to .910)

Draisaitl has been of the most prolific point producers in the playoffs the last several years, up until this series. There’s only so much one guy can do. Hockey is the ultimate team sport, the super stars only play a third of the game, and when it’s best on best in the playoffs they can be neutralized for a few games which is enough to potentially win a series.

Edmonton is too top heavy, but these guys are so f***ing good that they almost pulled it off. I think criticizing draisaitl for this series or McDavid for this game is ridiculous.

Legit feel bad for McDavid. He carried that team on his back all the way to the brink. I know players of his caliber pretty much never go Cupless, but It’s criminal how little they’ve given him for a supporting cast and you can’t trust Edmonton to make it happen.
Perhaps if mcdavid had of found a way to win the battle with barkov they would have won. Actually a crime that barkov didn’t win the conn smythe. He was unreal

Barkov was amazing, but it’s infinitely easier to shut down one or two guy when you don’t have to worry about literally anyone else on the team. If Edmonton had more talent around McDrai they’d win several championships.

I think he was just too average for them to really give it to him.

Don't get me wrong, he won them some games. Skinner didn't win any games I don't think, other than that 1-0 shutout against LA in the first round. He was a detriment to the Oilers these playoffs, whereas Bob was a positive contributor to the Panthers.

It seriously felt like most of the games where Skinner allowed 1 goal and even some of his 2 goal against games that he won came when the Oilers scored 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 goals. Other than that 1-0 game in the first round.

I still think the Oilers will win one of the next two cups. I said after they were eliminated last year that I think they'll win one of the next 3. Look how close they came, despite so many warts. From pedestrian goaltending, to weak depth, to a couple of real anchors on defense playing heavy minutes, right down to an over-decorated, washed up general manager that's already compiled more accolades than he deserves.

That GM is on the way out (yay for them) and won't be collecting another cup and I think they'll better for it.
I think they - like Florida after last year - will handle a final series better next year. Objectively looking the series over, they lost it when they went down 3 zip, despite arguably being the better team in a couple of those games or for long stretches in them. In another final, they won’t let themselves be backed into that position.

Speaking strictly of facility and talent, they are a better and deeper roster than Florida. Edmonton really impressed me in this series. Like McDavid said, they were “right there” in this game. Just fell one bounce short of taking it to OT.
