Honestly, looking back on it, they should have probably beaten that Sharks team in 2019. That was a team that was way on the downswing, their window was already shut. They’ve finished horribly the two following years since then and Martin Jones was in net for them and that’s a gimme right there.They've been contenders for just 2 years and last season they lost because Grubauer went down and if they lose this year it's to an incredible Knights team who they're only facing in the 2nd round rather than the WCF due to the format of this season. Comparing them to the pre Cup Caps who couldn't even get out of the 2nd round for close to a decade is absurd. If it continues to go this way for another 3+ years then that conversation can start
Now I picked the Sharks to win that series at the time but looking back on it, I think that was certainly a missed opportunity for the Avalanche.
