Very true. Dwight King is a pass-first, towards the corner -type of winger. Mersch is shoot-first, towards the net -type of winger. In my mind King is pretty smart o-zone player, but Mersch seems to have limited vision and predictable moves. And King is bigger and a lot better puckprotector.

Defensively King is average or below average (especially in the d-zone). I don't know how good Mersch is defensively, because he hasn't played a single game in the NHL.

Mersch in for King probably won't happen this year. It's more likely to happen near the end of King's contract.

Not sure why anyone would want to do that anyways. Mersch in for King is meh, Mersch and King together would be a handful. Dwight is one of the best at digging pucks off the boards and getting them to the middle, and has an underrated shot himself. Put Lewis between them and you have a possession/crashing nightmare for the other side. I would sit Nolan and AA, put Shore with Clifford and whatever winger isn't on the top line at the time.

Either way, once King does come back, Sutter will be able to easily spread the ice time out without worry. (sans any injuries, of course)

i think it's a luxury we wouldn't be able to afford beyond this season but I said before that King getting pushed down to the 4th line would be absolutely beastly.

I just want to see Mersch maintain his production in the AHL over a longer period of time before getting called up. He's really only hit his scoring stride fairly recently.

Plus it's a big leap from the AHL to the NHL. Shore was tearing up the AHL scoring-wise and that hasn't yet translated to the big leagues.
