We saw SOME signs of trying something different last night unrelated to Marchment's injury. Duchene replaced Benn on the 1st unit for one of them. And promptly lost the opening faceoff. :laugh:

They've been trying different things with the same units for a while now. Spott is bad but its not like hes crazy, he knows changes need to be made.

Unfortunately a lot of this falls on the players and their lack of creativity/speed. When they try to play fast they rush shots and passes and bobble them. That doesnt work so they default back to passing around the perimeter.

JoePavs was probably more of a player coach than we realized.

At this point, if they don't put Nils on the PP, I don't know what else they can do with roster decisions to make it functional. Outside of turning an LD into a RD. Or they just start taking matching minors and then never have to worry about the PP.

They otherwise can play fast and terribly, or slow and terribly. They can't and have barely ever been able to be both agile and accurate with the puck.

The way Duchene walked the line on that 3rd goal tonight. ..Put him on the PP point!
 
If we wanted to be good I think it's actually possible now.

Duchene-Granlund-Hintz-Robertson-Harley SHOULD work as a first unit and you have cover to move Benn off with the new acquisition.

Granlund will start on the 2nd unit I imagine

So this actually works. I feel like Wyatt and Granlund would be interchangeable but it doesn't particularly matter.

Now if there was any way to stop them from messing with it when the team is healthy.

The PP has been dialled in for sometime now. I also found the players and staff handled the slump well by staying positive/confident during the cold run.

Curious to see what will happen once Miro is healthy. Surely Harls has done enough to stay on that top unit. The top unit is night and day different when Harls is running the show. Nothing against Miro, but Harley is much better suited for that role.

Nah, they gonna put Miro back on the PP and cut Harley's PP time to drive that next contract price down... Got to play the long game

It's not just Harley, they finally took Benn off the top PP unit as well. Which in turn means that there's more movement and less shooting for deflections or garbage goals from Benn's big ass screening at the top of the crease.
