Funny thing at our condo in Bucerias. A loud helicoptor was cruising very low over our beach back and forth. We were chatting with a very nice fellow from Spokane in the pool, and I told him he better hide, as they were probably looking for Americans. He was a super nice guy and took the joke well.

A bit of a different grocery shopping experience today. Lots of chatter, and people taking their time before buying and checking the label. Nice to see.
We all know the reason for this but as a general rule of thumb it is better to buy local anyway. It helps to support everyone within a community and the country overall. Both the US and Canada have become far too dependent on buying from countries that don't give a rats ass about either country.

For sure, I always buy local when I can, so this isn’t a big change.. For us local produce in the winter is from Mexico. ;)But it was interesting seeing new store signage on every item to make it very obvious where they were made. I think there were only two items that I put back that I usually buy.

Funny to say Canada doesn’t give a rats ass about America. We’ve been fighting and dying along side you for a hundred years. When you’ve needed us we’ve been there. You think Canadians fought in Afghanistan for the fun of it? You think we send water bombers to fight wild fires in California for the fun of it?

This betrayal and act of aggression won’t be forgotten for a long time by a lot of Canadians. Stabbing family in the back isn’t taken lightly.

Did I say Canada doesn't gaf about the US or vice versa? I have family from Canada and am a proud dual citizen. Don't ever f***ing put words in my mouth again. My grandfather fought in WWII for Canada. When I say countries that don't give a damn about us I'm talking many countries in the middle east, China and Russia. They don't gaf about the US or Canada.

I usually try to buy local unless the price difference is so extreme that it hits the pocket too hard. Hopefully in the long run this helps strengthen Canadian brands sales domestically. You guys aren't missing out on Coors Light anyway

Considering what this conversation is about, surely you can forgive me when I apparently misinterpret you saying our countries are too reliant on others who don’t give a rats ass?

Your country is now one of those countries that doesn’t give a rats ass. You get that right?

This isn’t going to help anything long term. This is going to devastate the Canadian economy and cost thousands and thousands of people their jobs.

1 man does not = a country.

Hopefully it doesn't last long, time will tell.

That one man is who your country chose to lead and represent you. So when it comes to things like this, unfortunately one man very sadly does = a country.
No one will ever represent everyone no matter how good or bad they are. People need to remember that in times like these. Again let's hope that this is short term and that Canada gets their new PM in place soon so that he or she can see if they can help the situation.

Just to be clear. I don’t hold anything against you as an American. I don’t want to make it seem like I hate you now because you’re American or anything like that.

I just mean that in terms of actual ramifications and actual consequences that one person is your country.

As for a new PM, Canada’s parliament is prorogued until late March. At that point presumably the Liberal party will face a non-confidence vote and a new election will be called. An election likely won’t take place until May at the earliest and the new government won’t actually begin until ~June.

I still think my suggestion is the best right now. All Americans and soldiers return to home. You guys trade with no one and no one trades with you. Mr Orange needs to figure out if he wants to be in isolation or globalization. He bouncing back between the two. And yes, All non-americans get sent back to their native countries.

Canada is in an Election year anyway so a non confidence vote means little. I believe it has been agreed Canada goes to the polls in mid may.

I am still waiting for an American to explain to me how the US has been subsidizing Canada billion dollars a year

on the lighter side

Sorry--is this case is does--he is making a lot of decision right now by executive order, he is over riding your supreme court. He is firing people from jobs if he suspects that they are more loyal to the country than him. If anything goes wrong he blames women or minorities and there is a LARGE news organization that reports what he says as absolute facts.

One man is that country right now

Haha … good grief what an idiotic and utterly impractical suggestion.

My take wont be popular but as a Canadian that lives in both countries 6 months a year, I’m ok with the current actions of the US President.

Yes, some of his sabre rattling has been loud and somewhat over the top (51st state), but he hasn’t been wrong when it comes to Canada in terms of its lax approach to border security, NATO spending, harbouring terrorists (heck, even paying one 10 Million dollars in 2017) and general lack of meaningful political leadership.

Tariffs have been employed as a means to reset American supply channels and other political objectives, but it’s also had the impact of shaking Canadian leadership to hopefully refocusing itself on what is most important to Canadians.

The current trade war will create significant hardship in Canada and it won’t go unnoticed in the US as well. But I do believe it has already helped focus Canadian leadership on the real important issues at hand. Something that for 10 years now has not been their focus. We must get our economic house in order. Work together for all areas of the country to succeed financially (Quebec, that means you re: Energy East pipeline, BC you too on Northern Gateway, more secondary processing of raw materials /precoius metals than just shipping out etc).it won’t be easy, Canada is not an attractive investment jurisdiction at this time.

I hope this pushes Canadian dialogue to real issues and leave the other stuff that seems to preoccupy current leaders with, aside.

Change a few words around and it sounds like you just described Trudeau.

Due to his prorogue he is truly a dictator making all the decisions right now. There is even talk of the NDP/Libs suspending an election until 2026 (the longest the constitution will allow) due to the trade wars.

Then you will have Carney (an unelected official) ruling our country for a year and half. Then they might just declare an emergency and suspend the elections even further.

Your May election hope is slim right now. We may not see one for years.

The Canadian dollar is at 69 cents American.

It's still cheaper to buy Canadian in America even with the 25% Tariff. :)
